Simmons College

Susan Sheridan has been at Amherst College as the Head of Technical Services since 1978. Before coming to Amherst, she was Head of Acquisitions and then Head of Technical Services at Hobart & William Smith Colleges, NY. Susan claims that she began her library career in the third grade, stamping library books with a property stamp. In middle school she was responsible for selecting books for the class from the county bookmobile each month, performing collection development. In high school she was a student assistant the local public library in Franklin Township, NJ where her duties included circulation, the new book shelves, story hour, and book repair. Mentored by a wonderful public librarian, she attended her first ALA conference while a senior in high school. She considers acquisitions and management to be her speciality, but she still gets recharged by interactions with users during her regular shifts on the reference desk.
