Rachel Onuf teaches Preservation Management (LIS 439) twice a year at "GSLIS West." She also works as an archives analyst for the Archivists' Toolkit, an open source archival data management system, and does consulting work for a range of historical manuscript repositories. Much of this work involves preservation planning and collection assessment.

Rachel's interest in archives started when she was a student at Swarthmore College, where she worked at the Friends Historical Library. She earned her MILS, with a concentration in archives, from the University of Michigan. Wanting a better understanding of the historical context in which manuscript collections were produced, Rachel then earned an MA from the University of Virginia, with a focus on the 19th century south.

Rachel worked at a number of research libraries, culminating in a four-year stint at The Historical Society of Pennsylvania. She started on a Mellon-funded project, surveying all of the archival holdings of the Society, and was Director of Archives when she left. She developed and managed several successful grant-funded projects during her tenure.
