In her role as Associate Director of Academic Technology at Simmons College, Gail Matthews-DeNatale collaborates with faculty and staff to brainstorm ideas for curricular innovation and develop new initiatives. She also designs and directs opportunities for professional development, including institutes, lunch discussion series, and the Sloan Foundation-Funded Blended Learning Initiative.

Even though her current work involves technology-enhanced learning, her roots are in anthropology. Her Ph.D. is in folklore and she has over a decade of professional experience helping communities document and better understand their cultural practices. She has worked with traditional dancers in the mountains of North Carolina, Catawba potters in upland South Carolina, African American Gullah-speaking basketmakers in coastal South Carolina, and even urban groups such as Chicago bar magicians, puppet-makers, and ventriloquists.

She thinks it's important to keep active as a teacher and to contribute to her professional community. She is excited to be an adjunct professor at GSLIS, where she teaches the oral history course (LIS 433) and an online course in instructional design for faculty. Her goals are to keep active in her field, maintain a sense of play and intellectual curiosity, and achieve that ever-elusive work/life balance.

Lecturer in LIS 433 - Oral History.
