Bob Dugan (PoP)

Title: Dean of Libraries, University of West Florida

Bob Dugan is currently the Dean of Libraries at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, FL. He has also worked in an academic research library, been a state librarian, head of library development at the state level in Massachusetts, and a public library director and reference librarian. He has lead library construction projects, organizational and state-level planning efforts, and the introduction of experimental technologies including one of the first laptop lending programs and deployment of wireless networks in academic libraries. Article and monograph publications range from library metrics to outcomes assessment to information technology to the deployment of Web-based services by the federal government.

His course at Simmons focuses on leadership values in financial management. Rather than approaching financial management from a technical (e.g., accounting) point of view, the course examines the library leader and their responsibilities for accountability, performance towards excellence, communication, partnerships, stewardship and integrity.

Dugan holds graduate degrees from Simmons College (Library Science - 1975) and Suffolk University (Public Administration - 1982).
