March 2009: The Maggie Bush Years
2009 marks the end of an era at GSLIS. Professor Maggie Bush officially retires in June, after more than a quarter century at Simmons and decades before that as a youth services librarian. In her honor, we've devoted this month's InfoLink to Youth Services.

FEATURE ARTICLES IN THIS ISSUE:
p. 1 - The Maggie Bush Years: Maggie Bush never set out to become a teacher, but "she's influenced a library community coast to coast," says GSLIS adjunct professor Anita Silvey. As we write in this issue, Bush leaves behind a thriving youth services program, one that now offers a dual degree in library science and children's literature. In retirement, Bush plans to volunteer, bake, go to the movies, and maybe even teach a little.
One of Bush's many accomplishments was chairing a Massachusetts Library Association (MLA) committee to develop standards for children's and, eventually, young adult services in public libraries. Here is a history of the children's standards.
p. 2 - Snapshot Profile on Linda Braun: GSLIS Adjunct Professor Linda Braun '81LS teaches several classes at GSLIS, LIS 460 (Technology and the School Library Media Center) and LIS 483 (Young Adult Literature) among them, and is the president-elect of the ALA's Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). A two-time winner of the WISE (Web-based Information Science Education) Consortium's online teaching award, Braun spends quite a bit of time online, particularly on Twitter.
p. 4 - Search for the Ghost Queen: On Thursday, March 19, GSLIS Communications Assistant Alisa Libby releases her second young adult novel, The King's Rose. GSLIS is thrilled to be hosting the book launch at the Simmons College Kotzen Room, Lefavour Hall, on Thursday 3/19 at 12:30 p.m. She shares her experiences in researching the book in this month's InfoLink.
p. 5 - GSLIS Young Adult Titles: GSLIS boasts a few authors publishing in the realm of young adult books these days. Adjunct professors Anita Silvey and Michael Sullivan have also recently released their first titles.
