Be a Guru at ALA Midwinter
Date Posted: Tuesday, November 3, 2009
Institution: YALSA at ALA Midwinter
Location: Boston, MA
Are you a video game master? Are you on a first name basis with the latest gadgets? Are you a frequent visitor to "The Cloud"? Want to share your passion and expertise with interested librarians? If you answered yes to any of these questions, YALSA wants YOU to be a Guru at our ALA Midwinter conference event right here in Boston: Games, Gadgets, and Gurus!
YALSA is looking for passionate and tech-knowledgable people from GSLIS to help out with some fun and casual "show and tell" at our event. Your mission would be to show off the game, gadget, or online computer application you know and love best -- and to help other librarians to get to know and love them as well. Put simply: it's an evening of playing video games and talking gadgets and computers with other librarians. Fun, right? Plus, it's a great networking opportunity AND you get to attend our event for free (usually $40)!
We are specifically looking for people to demonstrate the following:
Rock Band (Beatles or otherwise)
eReaders, like the Kindle, Nook, Sony eReader, or application on iPod touch
Flip video cameras
Nintendo Wii
Podcasting
Skype
Smartphones (like the iPhone)
Cloud computing (Evernote, Googledocs, Zoho, Sliderocket, Slideshare, Visualcv, Flickr)
Social networking (ning, facebook, myspace, Second Life, Twitter, Friendfeed)
Resources for teen online programming activities (podbean, podomatic, gcast, phonecasting, comic life, goanimate, animoto, rock you, slide, imagechef, GIMP, meez)
Still interested? Email Lisa Molinelli: lisa.molinelli@simmons.edu for more information. Please let me know your "area of expertise" in your reply.
