Evening Circulation/Reserve Desk Attendant

Function:
Under the supervision of the Public Services Librarian, circulates and controls reserve, general and special learning resources, to assure availability and timely circulation of curriculum support materials.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Helps prepare materials for circulation.
- Responsible for the oversight of the library in the absence of professional staff (10:00 to 12:00 each evening and other times as necessary)
- Inputs and maintains an automated patron database.
- Helps with the processing of overdue notices; records, notifies, fines and collects fines for overdue materials; refers delinquent borrowers and uncollectible fines to the Public Services Librarian.
- Secondary supervision and training of student workers under the Public Services Librarian.
- Circulates, receives back and reshelves all reserve materials.
- Circulates, receives back and prepares for reshelving all general and special circulation resources.
- Performs closing procedures when working.
- Advises Public Services Librarian on policy and procedural matters related to reserves and circulation.
- Reshelves books in stacks as necessary or requested.
- Gives assistance and attention to the copier/printers.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Performs such additional duties as may be assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
In order to fully perform the above functions, the incumbent must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities, or demonstrate that the major responsibilities of the job can be accomplished, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities.
- Basic understanding of the principles and practices of modern library science with particular reference to circulation and control of learning resources.
- Compatibility with automated systems.
- Awareness of catalog and shelving systems in use.
- Detailed knowledge of the procedures governing reserves and circulation.
- Interpersonal communication skills necessary to deal with and assist library patrons in a constructive manner.
- Ability to file and attentiveness to details.
- Ability to type 40 wpm.

Hours are 7:00 p.m. to midnight Sunday — Thursday. The position will be available for the spring semester.
