Head of Cataloging and Collections, University of Idaho Library
Ben Hunter is currently the Head of Cataloging and Collections at the University of Idaho Library, a position he has held since July of 2009. His work includes overseeing daily operations and providing strategic direction for the library's cataloging, acquisitions, e-resources and serials, and digital initiatives units and serving as head of the Northern Idaho Academic Libraries Bibliographic Standards Group. Prior to this position, Ben was the Social Sciences Bibliographer and a Reference and Instruction Librarian at the University of Idaho, and an Association of Research Libraries Fellow at the University of Washington.
Ben is currently serving as the 2010/2011 President of the Idaho Library Association, and is part of the ALA Emerging Leaders 2011 cohort. He has published numerous articles on a variety of subjects including music librarianship, open access publishing, and assessment and frequently reviews books on topics such as electroacoustic music and the traditional music of Scotland and Ireland.
Ben holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from the University of Idaho, a Master of Music in Music Composition from the University of Oregon where he also served as a Graduate Teaching Fellow, and a Master of Science in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently a doctoral student at Simmons College studying managerial leadership in the information professions.
