Program Administrator, Encyclopedia of Connecticut History Online
QUAL:
- degree in a humanities-related or library services discipline
- experience with publishing environments and structured workflow processes is essential; experience in digital publishing projects preferred.
- superior knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Access, Word, and Excel;
- sound working knowledge of relational database management concepts.

DUTIES: The Connecticut Humanities Council seeks a highly organized program administrator for its Encyclopedia of Connecticut History Online, a Web site with over 1,400 articles on topics in Connecticut History scheduled to launch in May, 2010.
Responsibilities:
The program administrator is the organizational backbone of the project. S/he:
- works with project management to establish processes and procedures that support the business operations of ECHO;
- carries out day-to-day project administration activities;
- creates and maintains software applications that support business processes;
- prepares project documentation;
- assists project staff in preparing reports and other project documents;
- provides general administrative support to project staff as needed.
SALARY: The salary range for this position is $45,000 to $55,000 depending on experience and qualifications. QUAL: MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
LICENSES:
- Certification as a Professional Librarian by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
- Based on assignment, travel may be required. Those employees who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license or the equivalent from another state.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a correctional facility or working with a confined/troubled population; familiarity with legal reference and with law library materials.
DUTIES: Under the direction of the Librarian C, the Librarian A/B provides institutional general and law library services, programs and activities for the inmate population and for institutional staff. This includes delivery of law and general library services to all inmate groups including those without direct physical access to the general population library. Supervises inmate clerks. Classifies and catalogs books and other library materials; prepares catalog cards with required information to identify and locate materials and/or utilizes computer software, such as the Follett system, to do so. Selects and obtains books and other materials in accordance with library needs and policies. Provides training for general and law library inmate clerks. Provides training for staff/volunteers assigned to library duties. Aids library users, both inmate and staff, in the proper and productive use of library materials by retrieving or searching for materials, responding to inquiries, providing bibliographic instruction, explaining library rules and procedures. May assist in developing and updating a multi-year plan for institutional library services. May Conduct and report result of annual inventory of library materials and equipment. Ensures that law library materials are complete and current. Participates in meetings, seminars and/or boards as a representative of the library/institution in order to report to superiors on various trends, plans, problems, etc; to ascertain methods for standards compliance; to maintain proficiency in library theory and practice; to maintain compliance with departmental/institutional policy and procedure. Facilitates and/or delivers approved library programs and library related activities. Coordinates with other libraries to enhance collections through inter-library loan and to increase the institutions sources for book and other library materials.
SALARY: $39,104.52 to $53,254.50. Please note that salaries for union positions are determined according to the provisions of the respective collective bargaining agreement. *The DOC urges bi-lingual applicants to apply.
