Librarian/Library Teacher, East Bridgewater Public Schools, East Bridgewater, MA

QUAL: Current Massachusetts Library teacher license
Master's Degree in Library Science or its equivalent
Knowledge of collection development tools, online databases, information literacy, Web page development/html
Strong computer skills that include significant experience with web-based resources, electronic databases, and automated circulations systems
Understanding of the Massachusetts State Curriculum Frameworks
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills included a demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, faculty, staff and community members
Library experience in an educational setting

DUTIES:  Operate and supervise the library to which assigned.
Work cooperatively with staff to identify needed library resources.
Evaluate, select and requisition new library resources while ensuring that acquisitions to the collection support the curriculum.
Maintain an accurate and current inventory of all library materials.
Develop an annual budget.
Develop a long range plan for the library and update as necessary.
Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials and instruct teachers and students on the use of this system.
Establish library procedures and maintain high behavioral standards for patrons of the library.
Work collaboratively with staff to plan assignments likely to lead to the extended use of library resources.
Develop and implement an information literacy program that trains students, faculty and staff with the skills to make full use of the library resources.
Provide curriculum support to staff by assisting them in locating appropriate resources, and informing them of new resources when they become available.
Provide on-going links to databases and other relevant electronic resources through the maintenance of a website.
Offer professional development opportunities to staff.
Participate in professional development activities to ensure that the library stays current with new trends and technologies.
Serve as a member of appropriate committees.
Coordinate and cooperate with other libraries both within and outside of the district.

Library Media Specialist, Maine School Administrative District # 3, Unity, ME

QUAL: • State of Maine certification for Library Media Specialist with 071 endorsement is a must, MLS required, experience at the pre K-5 grade level. Applicant must also hold or be eligible for Maine State authorization/fingerprinting • Highly skilled in technology and its application to the learning process • Proficient in the integration of information literacy skills into the curriculum.

DUTIES: Reports to: Coordinator of Libraries, and Superintendent of Schools
Job Goal: To provide a full spectrum of library services to school learning communities to ensure that students and staff together become effective users of ideas and information.
Program Administration: • Establishes and evaluates annual and long-range goals, reporting accomplishments to the coordinator of libraries and the superintendent through an annual report.
• Keeps records of student use, circulation, purchases and losses; provides regular reports on the libraries as required by the administration and as needed for planning purposes.
• Plans, administers, supervises and evaluates the library centers of 6 elementary schools, developing policies to ensure efficient operation and optimal service.
• Administers and supervises library computer labs with established policies and procedures.
• Takes a leading role in the preparation and administration of elementary school library budgets in conjunction with the District's coordinator of libraries and building principals.
• Maintains an efficient system of classifying, cataloging, and circulating all materials.
• Supervises and trains paraprofessionals, clerical or technical staff members.
• Contributes to the development and dissemination of policies relating to appropriate use of resources, such as the Internet, intellectual freedom, intellectual property and academic integrity.
Instructional (Learning and Teaching): • Works with administration and curriculum leaders to ensure information literacy outcomes are a focus of instruction.
• Provides leadership in the integration of technology into all areas of the curriculum and the instructional practices of each facility.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers in designing and implementing instruction that ensures integration of literature, information literacy skills, and technologies into student learning.
• Provides group and individual instruction in information skills, research strategies, and uses of resources and equipment.
• Provides reference and readers' advisory services and creatively promotes literacy, reading and library use to the general student population.
Information Access and Delivery: • Provides a balanced collection, based on established criteria, of print and non-print resources to support the curriculum, and systematically evaluates and weeds the collection on a yearly basis.
• Under the direction of the District's coordinator of libraries, maintains information network, to include electronic card catalog and electronic databases, and provides training to students and faculty in effective uses of information systems.
• Promotes the effective use of information resources and services both within the school and beyond.
• Functions as a district/school resource for issues regarding ethical use of information including issues of copyright and intellectual freedom.
Professional: • Presents and attends workshops, in-service activities and conferences and takes courses to update professional skills.
• Keeps current on all types of educational material in both electronic and print format, and remains up-to-date on trends and practices regarding their use.
• Participates actively with MSAD 3 library media specialists to develop long-range plans for upgrading library services in all schools and standardize the operation of libraries within the district.
• Participates actively in professional associations on the local, state and national level.
