The Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Fellowship, Darien Library, Darien, CT

QUAL: Harold McGraw was an active supporter of Darien Library with a personal commitment to education and a belief in the important role a child's library experiences play in the beginning of life-long literacy. The McGraw family has funded the formation of a Children's Librarian Fellowship at Darien Library to honor his memory, through a two-year full-salaried position for a recent Master in Library Science graduate who:

demonstrates exemplary scholarship
possesses a passion for working with children and for the development of literacy
shows significant leadership promise
has strong personal qualities
demonstrates a penchant for technology

Selection Process
The Fellowship will be open to LIS graduates from an accredited Library School in the United States or Canada who will have received his or her diploma between December 1, 2011 and July 1, 2012.

Term
The successful applicant will be employed at Darien Library for two years, commencing approximately July 1, 2012, with a final employment date of June 30, 2014.

DUTIES: An extraordinary opportunity for an extraordinary new Children's Librarian.

Darien Library in Darien, CT is now accepting applications for the inaugural Harold W. McGraw, Jr. Fellowship.

The Fellow will work as a member of the Children's Services team, providing reference and reader's advisory services in addition to creating and conducting programs for children and families. The Fellow will be given specific, defined, high-stakes projects and responsibilities that will be determined by the successful candidate's skills and interests. The Fellowship will provide experience, growth, and challenges in the following areas:

· Children's materials collection development
· Program development, implementation, and evaluation
· Outreach to defined areas of the community
· Continuing education, professional development, and support
· Access to the latest technology

This Fellowship is an opportunity to work on real-world, significant projects and gain experience in close coordination with very strong staff. The Fellow will receive direct mentoring from Gretchen Caserotti, Assistant Director for Public Services.

SALARY: The Fellow will be paid initially at the Connecticut Library Association MLS minimum salary for entry-level positions (for 2012: $50,700) with full benefits, paid membership in CLA and ALA, and funding for attendance at the American Library Association Annual Meeting and other meetings as appropriate.

Adult Services Librarian/Assistant Library Director, Eastham Public Library, Eastham, MA

QUAL:
Education and Experience
Master's Degree in library science; three years of professional library experience; supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Ability and Skill
Knowledge of library policies and procedures, including automated circulation systems and information technology. Knowledge of classical and current trends in adult literature. Familiarity with foreign languages.
Ability to interact tactfully and appropriately with library patrons and staff. Ability to work independently and manage numerous, diverse tasks. Ability to develop and implement programs.
Customer service skills. Oral and written communication skills. Planning and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements
Minimal physical effort is required to perform most duties. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit speak, hear, and use hands to operate equipment. Vision requirements include the ability to read routine documents and use a computer.

DUTIES: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Assists the Director with collection development and maintenance; evaluates and recommends materials for purchase; submits purchase orders with Director's approval and processes orders, responsible for maintenance of the collection through inventory, shelf reading, weeding and discarding materials.
Plans and organizes educational and entertainment programs for adults. Promote and publicize library activities; prepare press releases for Library Director approval and other public relations activities and materials for programs.
Manage circulation functions; catalog materials; maintain files and records and prepare reports; oversee circulation of interlibrary loans. Responsible for supervision of Adult Services circulation desk. Check materials in and out; register new patrons, answer telephones; assist patrons with reserve and overdue materials; assess and collect fines at circulation desk as needed.
Represents the library on regional task forces, committees and at training programs; attends informational and instructional meetings and workshops related to library operations and adult services.
Provides reference and reader advisory services to patrons; responds to inquiries on procedures; provides direction, information and instruction to library users.
Provides training and assistance to patrons in the use of computer hardware and software, the library database and the Internet.
Identify opportunities to improve service delivery; assists the Library Director in the development of goals and objectives, assist the Director in implementation and evaluation of improvements, and serves on various internal committees.
Works with MIS Director to update and maintain the library website; create bibliographies and reviews for web site and publications.
Assist in the identification and preparation of appropriate grants; maintain and analyze records and collect and interpret statistics in support of grant applications.
Publishes monthly book review.
Performs additional supervisory duties and may be on call, in the absence of the Director.
Oversee the work of volunteers and part-time employees.
Performs similar or related work as required, or as situation dictates.

Supervision
Works under the general direction of the Library Director.
Performs professional library functions of a responsible nature, involving substantial judgment and initiative in planning, developing and managing adult library services. Issues involving policy decisions are referred to the Library Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Oversees volunteers. In the absence of the Director, supervises full-time and part-time staff.

Work Environment
Work is performed under typical library and office conditions; the workload is subject to minor fluctuations; regular library schedule requires evening and weekend work.
The employee operates standard library equipment.
The employee has regular contact with library patrons and staff, vendors, library organizations and other town employees; contact is typically in person or by telephone.
The employee has access to confidential patron records.
Errors are easily detected and corrected, but could result in delay of services.

SALARY: $46,656.16. CORI, Pre-employment Physical & Drug test req.

Coordinator of Technology, Cranston Public Library, Cranston, RI

QUAL: Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution. Five years of public library experience, including three years of experience with technology applications and services.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Knowledge of the theories, principles, practices, and tools of library science in general, and technology in particular.
2. Knowledge of current and emerging technologies, including social media, and implementation possibilities.
3. Knowledge of technology best practices and policies.
4. Knowledge of administrative theories and practices.
5. Ability to plan, develop and execute advancements in technology and policy for library services.
6. Ability to function as a member of a team to achieve library goals and objectives.
7. Ability to provide effective customer service.
8. Ability to speak and write effectively.

DUTIES: The Cranston Public Library is seeking candidates for the position of Coordinator of Technology -Librarian III. Under the supervision of the Library Director and Assistant Library Director, the Coordinator of Technology is responsible for planning, implementing and managing current and emerging technologies throughout the library system.

1. Formulates, implements and manages policies for existing technology, emerging technology and social media.
2. Prepares analysis of technology in support of the Library's mission and services. Prepares cost estimates. Suggests and implements measurable outcomes.
3. Plans, installs and maintains technology, including software and hardware upgrades (including peripherals) in the Central Library and branch libraries. Selects and purchases equipment.
4. Coordinates and manages staff and technology for cataloging, acquisitions and processing. Assists and coordinates with collection development with Youth Services Coordinator and Adult Services Coordinator as needed.
5. Coordinates, designs, manages, maintains and updates an in-house website.
6. Resolves technology problems and issues with personnel at the Central Library and branch libraries.
7. Trains library staff in the use of technology (hardware, software, peripherals, social media and web 2.0. Provides a framework for staff to borrow and use equipment for library programs.
8. Coordinates technology issues with Ocean State Libraries (OSL). Maintains library presence and information on OSLX.
9. Provides tutorials and workshops for the library staff and the public.
10. Manages library's mobile lab.
11. Pursues grants for technology projects and funding.
12. Participates in activities of professional and community organizations. Represents Library at LIT forum and E-Zone committee.
13. Participates in continuing education opportunities.
14. Acts as Person-in-Charge of the Central Library when assigned. May serve as Acting Library Director in the absence of the Library Director and the Assistant Library Director.
15. Performs other duties as required.

SALARY: $53,157 starting; $55,429 after six months of service
