Children's Library, Derry Public Library, Derry, NH

QUAL: M.L.S. degree or M.L.S. candidate or equivalent degree from an accredited institution is preferred as well as a minimum of three to five years working in a children's environment.

DUTIES: The Derry Public Library is seeking a dynamic, innovative, child-oriented person with vision and a commitment to help develop an outstanding children's library program and who will enthusiastically represent the library in the schools and in the community.
Responsibilities include planning and carrying out programs for children of all ages, with a specific emphasis on grades 1-6. Knowledge of children's literature, collection development, integrated library systems, plus familiarity and understanding of the role of technology in children's services required. Personable attitude, strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop comfortable working relationships with children, parents and staff are a must. SALARY: This position is part time, 29.5 hours a week. Beginning salary is $18.48 an hour and includes part time benefits and other options.

Technology Specialist/Archivist , Needham Free Public Library, Needham, MA

QUAL:  Master's Degree in Library and Information Science; knowledge of a wide variety of computer programs, applications, and equipment; three years of professional library experience.

DUTIES: The Needham Free Public Library is seeking a highly qualified person to fill the position of Technology Specialist/Archivist. Under the supervision of the Library Director, responsible for all aspects of information technology within the library, facilitating the use of technology by both library patrons and staff.
The Technology Specialist oversees all levels of automation, particularly the Minuteman Library Network, and all independent computer functions; evaluates current and future needs for library technology; enhances the delivery of library services by keeping informed of changing and emerging technologies; and supervises automation and technical training for staff and patrons.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to, coordinating electronic technology use in the library; planning for, purchasing, and implementing a variety of hardware and software to meet the needs of both the public and the staff; acquiring training and familiarity with computer hardware, operating systems, software applications, and the Internet; preparing training procedures for training the staff and the public; arranging for installation, maintenance, and repair of hardware; performing general troubleshooting of computer workstations, printers, software applications; researching and recommending computer and telecommunication applications to insure the improvement of services and operations; managing all system functions provided through the Minuteman Library Network; acting as liaison between the library and the Minuteman Library Network; serving on appropriate Minuteman committees; maintaining the library's web page.
Additionally, responsibilities include organizing and maintaining the library's Archives and Local History and Genealogy Collections, applying for appropriate grants, and writing appropriate publicity articles.

SALARY: $45,134-$58,969 per year (Grade NR-4) Full-Time, With Benefits

Library Director, Nashua Public Library, Nashua, NH

QUAL: MLS plus a minimum of eight years managerial work experience in a library setting; must have experience in library automation, effective communications and public relations; knowledge of City, State and Federal laws and regulations governing public libraries; demonstrated proficiency in budgeting and fund raising, and a knowledge of the latest application of Web 2.0 technology in libraries.

Nashua Public Library seeks an enthusiastic, innovative director to work with the community, Board and staff using technology and traditional library service to continue to provide the City with an outstanding public library.
Successful candidates will be customer service oriented, skilled at community relations, experienced in fiscal management, and aware of the potential offered by technology in a library indispensable in its community. Library staff of 45 FTE's, FY 2008-09 budget of $2.2 million, serving a population of approximately 85,000.      PRIMARY DUTIES
The Director
• Reports to the Board of Trustees: on the services the library offers to the patrons; the amount of use via monthly and annual statistics; the staff; the condition of the building; quarterly budget reports; and other aspects of the operation through monthly and annual narrative and written reports.
• Serves on the Mayor's Cabinet and appears before the Board of Aldermen as requested.
• Provides leadership for shaping and implementing the library's mission, vision and goals. The director supervises the operation of the library: staffing, maintaining the building, representing the library to the community, interpreting and administering the policies of the board, and managing fiscal operations and requirements.
• The director is in charge of hiring, dismissal, disciplinary acts, and evaluation and training of personnel.
• The director recommends an annual budget to the board, and administers the expenditures of the library, supervises the maintenance of the building and grounds, recommends improvements and expansions to the physical plant and/or new construction or service delivery alterations. Makes sure insurance coverage is adequate on contents of building and liability.
• Maintains liaison with the community at large, the school district and the State Library system. Is aware of changes to demographics that may impact on the operation of the library.
• Develops and evaluates plans for library services, evaluating the effectiveness of the library's services and programs in relation to the changing needs of the community.
• Administers marketing program and public relations efforts.
• Through participation in professional organizations, attendance at conferences and reading, keeps aware of developments in the field and keeps the board and staff informed of them. Initiates and supervises uses of new ideas and technology in service to the patrons.
• Recommends adoption of policies to the board. Keeps the staff informed of board actions, and supervises the implementation of policies.
• Oversees the programming and public information projects of the library staff.
• Ensures that library practices conform to the Library Bill of Rights and the Statement of Professional Ethics, and all laws and regulations governing the library.
• The director is responsible to the Board of Trustees and to the taxpayers of the City of Nashua for the smooth operation of a library that is dedicated to providing the best and most forward-sighted library service to the community

SALARY: $67,546 - $113,555 (Initial placement between $67,546 and $95,225 DOE)
