QUAL: A Masters Degree in Library Science or Information Science from a library school accredited by the American Library Association. Knowledge of professional principles and practices of library science including classification systems, reference sources and techniques, acquisition, cataloging and filing, bibliographic sources of information and library automation; knowledge of library administration principles and techniques; interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to analyze and solve problems relating to library methods and procedures.
DUTIES: The Connecticut State Library is recruiting for a full time Librarian 1 in the Bibliographic Information Services Unit. The incumbent will work under the direction of the State Library Unit Head in Bibliographic Information Services and will work independently to perform complex cataloging of History and Genealogy material including microforms, maps, and newspapers.
Duties will include: Original and complex copycataloging of History and Genealogy books and serials, including genealogies, family histories, theses and dissertations, and church and cemetery records of limited distribution; original and complex cataloging of current and historical Connecticut newspapers; original and complex cataloging of archival material and collections of vital records on microfilm; original and complex cataloging of maps, some rare and valuable, from the State Library's collection of maps and atlases of Connecticut and of other geographical areas; training and revision of materials processing staff; maintaining supply inventory, including requests for replacement orders of needed supplies; and performing related duties as assigned. SALARY: The annual starting rate for this position is $56,028.

Three to five years prior children's librarian experience including collection development and programming. A personable attitude, strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to develop comfortable working relationships with children, parents and staff is highly desirable. Knowledge of integrated library systems required. Familiarity and understanding of the role of appropriate technology in children's services.
