DUTIES:


Instructional:
  • Provide formal and informal instruction in literature, information skills, the production of materials and the use of information and instructional technologies as related to the curriculum, in cooperation with faculty.
  • Provide special book collections or subject bibliographies as needed.

Administrative:
  • Operate the LMC in accordance with existing established policies and procedures.
  • Record requests for purchase of instructional materials made by teachers.  
  • Inform faculty of instructional materials received.
  • Direct and supervise circulation procedures, maintain Spectrum Circ/Cat materials management system, including access to Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).

Technical:
  • Catalog and process print and non-print material or import electronic records provided by vendors, using Spectrum Circ/Cat electronic materials management system as required.
  • Provide for continuous inventory of all materials and equipment.
  • Provide equipment and materials for production of audio, video and electronic presentations in cooperation with the Instructional Technology Specialist.
  • Provide facilities and expertise in production to teachers and students.
  • Organize the physical facilities necessary for a successful media program.

QUAL: Certified, MLS or School Library certification candidate eligible to be certified, or recently retired high school library media specialist highly desirable; would also consider certified high school teacher with experience in offering professional development .  Experience in urban high school setting highly desirable; familiarity with PC and Mac platforms and automated library catalog; strong interpersonal and outreach skills.

DUTIES: Under supervision of the Library/Media Department Coordinator, the TRC library media specialist will provide services to administrators, teachers, and other staff to support curricular and professional development needs. Some flexibility  in determining work schedule.  

January 25th - May 1st, 2009
Areas of focus for 12 - week position:
Management/supervision:  Maintain a welcoming facility for workshops, individual work and meetings; maintain supplies and instructional materials for teachers; facilitate access to print, video and online resources, computer and multimedia equipment; provide reference services and conduct research for teachers and administrators. Foster collaboration among staff and assist in the implementation of 9-12 learning expectations in content areas through individual and group projects that integrate the use of technology. Supervise full-time technical assistant and part-time paraprofessional.

Collection Development/Professional Development: Collaborate with Instructional Coaches and Professional Development Teacher Coach to develop, coordinate and facilitate workshops as well as further develop Department-based resource collection.
