Master of Science Degree and Certificate Programs
We encourage you to visit us in Boston or GSLIS West (S. Hadley). Many opportunities exist at both campuses, such as attending an information session, visiting a class, speaking with an admission representative, faculty member, or current student, or taking a tour.
If you are unable to come to campus, we encourage you to learn more about our programs and the admission process through our blog, Facebook and Twitter pages.
Doctoral Programs
For information on our doctoral programs, we encourage you to read more at the doctoral website, or contact us by email. The Ph.D. program at Simmons has two foci: the flexible Ph.D. in Library and Information Science (LIS) and the distinctive Ph.D. focused on Managerial Leadership in the Information Professions (MLIP).
Continuing Education
GSLIS offers a variety of workshops each term of interest to professionals in the library and information professions. Current and past workshop topics include taxonomies and controlled vocabularies, new technologies, marketing, MARC basics, instructional design, pop culture, graphic novels, and many others.
Continuing education programs are open to all including practicing librarians/information professionals and current LIS students who wish to earn professional (CEU) credits while they update skills and knowledge. Current Simmons GSLIS students and Simmons GSLIS alumni qualify for special discounted rates on continuing education programs.
Our over seventy workshops each year are held on weekends or online for the convenience of practicing librarians and other professionals. We invite you to register or to request more information on our continuing education workshops. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at gslisce@simmons.edu.
Campus Visits
Boston is big league in every sense but size — and so is Simmons! Our small, but mighty community attracts students and teachers who give it so much life and meaning. The historic, tree-lined Simmons campus is located at the border of Boston's popular Fenway neighborhood and the Longwood Medical area. We're literally surrounded by music and fine arts, medical care and research, public debate and commentary, and the resounding cheers of diehard baseball fans at legendary Fenway Park.

Simmons joins other academic institutions, hospitals, research centers, restaurants and performance venues, and world-class museums to create a neighborhood that is truly the soul of our city. Imagine spending a morning at the Museum of Fine Arts or the incomparable Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum right next door to Simmons, followed by lunch at a sidewalk cafe, a feisty Red Sox game, and then dinner and dancing with friends — all within walking distance of Simmons.
GSLIS West is located in South Hadley, MA in the Pioneer Valley. The campus is 90 minutes from Boston and Albany, 70 minutes from New Haven, and an hour from Brattleboro. The region is renowned for its beauty and its intellectual and cultural vibrancy.
The Pioneer Valley is home to the "Five Colleges" -- Mount Holyoke, Amherst, Hampshire, and Smith Colleges, and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. This unique community of more than 30,000 students offers an extraordinary range of activities, including concerts, films, theater and dance, athletics, and museum exhibitions.
The nearby towns of Amherst and Northampton - both accessible from the GSLIS West campus by a free shuttle bus - offer a combination of cosmopolitan sophistication and small-town charm. There are coffeehouses, bookstores, clubs, movie theaters, galleries, restaurants, and specialty shops.
