GSLIS Fellowships

GSLIS offers five Dean's Fellowships, each an award package of a scholarship and assistantship. Each Fellowship is a one year (three semester) appointment, with the possiblility of renewal for successive appointments. Dean's Fellows have the opportunity to work closely with faculty, staff, and students on a variety of projects. Fellow for Dean's Initiatives

The Fellow for Dean's Initiatives provides administrative and organizational assistance on GSLIS initiatives, international programs, special events, and alumni activities. This fellow works primarily with the dean and administrative manager, but has close interaction with many staff and faculty members. It includes an internship at the Simmons library.

Dean's Fellow for Instructional Technologies

The Dean's Fellow for Instructional Technologies supports eLearning (WebCT Vista and Moodle) by working closely with the College's Academic Technology office and trains faculty and staff on eLearning functions. The Dean's Fellow also maintains, updates and grades the Technology Orientation Requirement. The Dean's Fellow develops lab software for faculty, staff and students; supports Continuing Education classes both in-person and online; and helps design and support online courses. The Dean's Fellow works with a variety of multimedia applications and basic productivity software in a multi-platform environment. The Dean's Fellow works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students in instructional support with web design and digital audio and video components. This position works independently and as part of a team.

Dean's Fellow for Technology Support

The Dean's Fellow for Technology Support will be the primary support for the Manager of Technology in all aspects of workstation maintenance, server support, and application installation. This position will also assist the Manager of Technology with workshops relating to the Technology Orientation Requirement, emerging technologies, and other technical instruction as needed.

The Dean's Fellow is provided opportunities to develop and build upon technical skills in server and workstation environments, project management skills, customer relations management, instructional skills, library process management, and problem tracking and solving techniques. The Dean's Fellow is part of a team, and is expected to assume team goals and responsibilities.

Dean's Fellow for GSLIS West and Online Library Assistance

The Dean's Fellow will support GSLIS West and Online Library Assistance fifteen hours per week. New or currently enrolled students who will have completed LIS 407 and a maximum of 9 credits by the end of the Summer 2011 semester may apply for this fellowship.

This fellowship is a combined scholarship and assistantship award. It is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for a second appointment. The Fellow receives a scholarship for one course in each of the September, January and June semesters. Tuition for these credits will be covered by the scholarship. For the assistantship, the fellow is required to work 1200 hours over the year and is paid an hourly rate of $15.00.

Under the direction of the Associate Director for Access Services, and in consultation with the GSLIS Librarian and GSLIS West Director, the Fellow will support access to library resources and services for GSLIS West faculty and students.

Dean's Editorial Fellow


The fellow supports faculty editorial projects as well as GSLIS print and digital publications. Specific duties include the following:
