other sources of aidStudents needing financial assistance should be aware of the numerous scholarship programs sponsored by foundations and professional organizations, such as the American Library Association, the Special Libraries Association, and the Library and Information Technology Association. Simmons College is a participating institution in ALA's Spectrum Scholarship program. For more information on the newly created Spectrum Doctoral Fellowship program, please see our Ph.D. page. Many scholarships are listed annually in the American Library Association publication, Financial Assistance for Library and Information Studies, which can be downloaded from the ALA Web site. Additional sources of financial assistance are listed on the Student Financial Services Web site. GrantsStudents demonstrating high financial need through the application process may receive Simmons grant funds. Award amounts vary from year to year, depending on the number of applicants, their financial need, and available resources.Employment Opportunities/Practical ExperienceMany students work either full- or part-time in local libraries while attending the Graduate School of Library and Information Science. In this way they are able to cover part or all of their graduate school expenses.
