Students needing financial assistance should be aware of the numerous scholarship programs sponsored by foundations and professional organizations, such as the American Library Association, the Special Libraries Association, and the Library and Information Technology Association. Many scholarships are listed annually in the American Library Association publication, Financial Assistance for Library and Information Studies, which can be downloaded from the ALA Web site.

Grants

Students demonstrating high financial need through the application process may receive Simmons grant funds.   Award amounts vary from year to year, depending on the number of applicants, their financial need, and available resources.

Employment Opportunities/Practical Experience

Many students work either full- or part-time in local libraries while attending the Graduate School of Library and Information Science. In this way they are able to cover part or all of their graduate school expenses. Simmons College is located in Boston, one of the greatest bibliographic centers of the world, and nearby institutions offer opportunities for practical experience in a great variety of library settings.
