Doctor of Arts

Supervisor/Director Certificate

PLEASE NOTE: We are in the process of shaping the future of doctoral studies at GSLIS, and are not currently accepting applications to the Supervisor/Director Certificate. However, for those students already enrolled, the following applies.

The Supervisor/Director Certificate is designed for those individuals who wish to qualify for district- or system-level supervisory positions. Our program for supervisors/directors of school library teachers is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the ICC, and the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification program. It leads to the award of the Doctor of Arts degree after the completion of 36 semester hours of prescribed course work, including a practicum or internship, clinical experience, and a supervised field research project.

Degree Requirements

The 36-semester-hour program includes:

  • management and research related courses
  • 75 clock hours of practicum or 150 clock hours of internship
  • 400 clock hours of clinical experience
  • a supervised field research project.

The completion of this programs leads to the doctor of arts degree and the Supervisor/Director Certificate preK-12.
