Graduate English Program

Simmons's versatile English program extends from classics to cutting-edge theory, with individual paths of specialization and a writing track. Graduates are well prepared for teaching, writing, doctoral study, and other literary pursuits. The program varies according to individual interests, with courses on 17th-century poetry, children's literature, film and drama, the American novel, race and gender in women's poetry, narrative theory, and more. The Simmons English program provides a strong foundation in English, American, and comparative literary theory and analysis. Students enjoy a collegial relationship with faculty who are award-winning poets and playwrights, authors, reviewers, and nationally known literary scholars.
