Degree Options: MAT/M.A. in a chosen area of liberal arts
Credits: 60-64 credits
This innovative dual-degree option prepares students for teaching, with a concentration in a chosen area of liberal arts. Students pursue a 60-64 credit program of study that leads a Master of Arts in Teaching, plus a Master of Arts in Children's Literature, English, Gender/Cultural Studies, or History. While a dual degree is not necessary for teaching licensure, this option addresses the academic interests of students who want to continue the intellectual work of liberal arts theory while also training to be a teacher.
Students work simultaneously toward both degrees and, upon successful completion of the program, are certified as elementary, middle, or high school teachers. Dual-degree graduates are well positioned for leadership roles as department heads, lead teachers, or curriculum coordinators. Applicants are reviewed by both academic departments.
