A Collaborative Academic Community

It’s a fact: approximately one-third of the students in our Educational Leadership and Administrator of Special Education programs are graduates of other Simmons education programs. “People already know what it’s like to be part of a graduate program at Simmons and that Simmons aligns with their educational values. They like the small college atmosphere, camaraderie, and relationship between faculty and students,” explains Roberta Kelly, Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of the Urban Elementary Education program. “They’re inspired to come back for that next, more demanding degree — and the supportive environment.”

Nationwide, U.S. schools are facing a demand for greater accountability, higher standards, and new testing policies. Simmons prepares general education and special education teachers, specialists, and administrators to address these challenges, as well as issues such as school restructuring and increasing numbers of students with diverse learning needs. Our widely respected graduate education programs provide a strong foundation in applied theory, extensive field experience, and leadership to help students develop the skills and confidence to implement change in their schools and communities.

  • “Simmons's education program has an excellent reputation and it is flexible enough to complement my schedule as a mother. I’ve been very impressed with the high caliber of teaching, the curriculum, and my fellow classmates. The program has exceeded my expectations.“ Catherine Zusy ’04, MAT
