African Americans are disproportionately affected by nutrition-related chronic diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and obesity; yet only 3% of registered dietitians are Black (JAND, 2012). The purpose of this event is to network and to discuss the challenges facing students of color entering the field of nutrition, as well as the ways high schools, colleges, students, and BOND of Color can collectively work toward increasing racial equity in this field. The keynote speaker is Dr. Evelyn Crayton, President-Elect of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. There will also be a panel discussion and a networking reception.

This event is especially for:
  • High school students with an interest in health careers, particularly students of color
  • College students of color, particularly those with an interest in nutrition
  • Nutrition professionals
  • Nutrition professors, researchers, and administrators
