Lessons from the Boston Public Library

Public Lecture Series: Martha Mahard

Starts:  3/23/2016  12:00 PM
Ends: 3/23/2016 1:00 PM
Location: Collaboratory, 3rd floor, One Palace Road, Simmons College

Martha Mahard is currently overseeing a major inventory project in the Print Department at the Boston Public Library. The inventory project is the result of a year-long study she conducted and a crisis surrounding two mis-filed prints. With no known model on which to base such an inventory, Mahard and a team of Simmons interns are gathering data on a collection of prints which spans the entire history of printmaking - both fine art and reproductive prints - as well as posters, postcards and ephemera. In her talk, Mahard will describe some of the problems encountered during her initial survey and the actual implementation of the inventory project.
