Simmons College presents Music in the Gallery with Pan-Latin ensemble Sol y Canto, on Thursday, April 14th from 11:00-12:30 p.m., with reception to follow, at the Trustman Art Gallery, located on the fourth floor, Main College Building, 300 The Fenway in Boston. The concert and reception are free and open to the public.

Pioneers of Boston’s Latin scene, Sol y Canto welcomes their listeners on a journey into the world of Latin music and culture. The band, led by Puerto Rican/Argentine singer and bongo player Rosi Amador and her husband, New Mexican guitarist and composer Brian Amador, is backed by musicians playing a variety of instruments. Their ensemble connects audiences to the richness of Pan-Latin music through the interpretation of classic folk songs as well as their original compositions influenced by Chilean, Venezuelan, Mexican, Cuban and other Latin musical traditions. All of these influences are woven together to create their colorful repertoire.

Sol y Canto has enjoyed a string of successes since its founding in 1994. The Boston Globe named their first album, Sancocho, one of the best recordings of the year. In 1999, En Todo Momento was featured by People en Español as one of the year's hits.

The prestigious MacDowell Artist Colony awarded Brian Amador a fellowship in 2009. While at MacDowell, Brian composed Sabor y Memoria: A Musical Feast in Seven Courses. The world-renowned Cuarteto Lationamericano debuted the music in 2010.

Sol y Canto creates performances that transcend language differences and connects the audience to the richness of Latin American culture. They breathe life into their music by spinning their mission into their songs. Sol y Canto will transport us to their musical world of flavor and memory.

This concert is supported by the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Art and Music.
