Simmons University is proud to present Elizabeth Acevedo as the first Gwen Ifill College Mentor-in Residence. During her three-day visit, she will present a spoken word performance on Wednesday, February 13 at 12:30 p.m. in the Linda K. Paresky Conference Center, located on the 3rd floor, Main College Building, 300 The Fenway in Boston. All are welcome and this event will include free pizza.

National Poetry Slam Champion Elizabeth Acevedo received the 2018 National Book Award for her New York Times best-selling novel, The Poet X. She is also the winner of the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award Prize for Best Children’s Fiction and the author of the chapbook Beastgirl & Other Origin Myths and the forthcoming With the Fire on High. Acevedo holds a BA in Performing Arts from The George Washington University and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Maryland.
