Two inspiring events that I've attended recently have really gotten me thinking about putting my money where my mouth is. Jackie Zeyner spoke about using her "time, treasure and talent" to support the development of women and girls worldwide. Then in Simmons' National Conversation on Board Diversity, the point was made again one of our most powerful and often overlooked tools for supporting gender equity is our purchasing decisions. I'm going to start using this searchable directory from 20/20 Women on Boards the same way I use the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch to help me decide what I am going to buy and what I'm going to stop buying. It's a good thing that Amazon has 22% women on their board, or I'd really be in trouble!

These two events are indicative of what can happen when events are done right the participants walk away energized and ready to take action. I am fortunate that my role at Simmons allows me to attend a variety of events. As I mentioned in our last newsletter, we are big believers in the importance and power of networking, and this is one of the ways that I network. I've started blogging about my experiences, so I can share highlights and my takeaways with those who weren't able to attend.

We also want to extend our relationships through social media, so we did a poll in the last newsletter to find out how you like to receive information. You can see the results here. It was great to see that e-newsletters were the most preferred communication vehicle. Facebook wasn't nearly as popular, but we're hoping to change that a little by using our Facebook page to highlight interesting articles in the news. We'd love it if you'd friend us.

I welcome your feedback! If you have topics you would like us to include in our next newsletter, or other suggestions to make our communications more useful for you, please email me directly at elisa.vandam@simmons.edu.

Best,
