Simmons | Boston, Massachusetts

We are looking forward to your arrival this fall. This is the first of the three summer newsletters you will receive prior to your arrival at Simmons! We encourage you to read the newsletter carefully and share important information with your parents and families.

Here are a few things you should do now in order to make your transition to the College a little easier:

  • Mail or fax your final high school transcript or copies of college transcripts for any courses you have taken to the Office of Undergraduate Admission, 300 The Fenway, Boston, MA, 02115, or by fax: 617-521-3190.
  • Submit your Entrance Health Certificate, including your immunization records, as soon as you can. Having your immunization records on file at the College is required by state law. If you have not received the forms in the mail, you can download it here. Select "Immunizations" from the menu. Please return all forms to the Health Center, 94 Pilgrim Road, Boston, MA, 02115 or by fax: 617-521-3467.
  • Make sure you know your username and password and check your Simmons e-mail regularly. You will need your username and password for Math Competency and Language Placement testing at Orientation or at one of the Summer Preview Days. Learn more about using e-mail, forwarding e-mail, and changing your password from Technology.
  • Keep an eye out for your student bill! The Office of Student Financial Services will be mailing student bills on or around July 1, 2009.
  • Complete the College Student Inventory, an online questionnaire that gives you an opportunity to share your background and thoughts on a variety of topics; this survey is designed to connect you to the appropriate resources and programs that will help maximize your experience at Simmons. All incoming First-Year Students will receive an e-mail in early July with information on how to take the survey.

Read more in this newsletter about the following topics that will help you prepare to come to Simmons.

  • Read the letter from Orientation Chair, Katie Barker about how to make the most of your Orientation experience and how your Orientation Leader can help prepare you for your time at Simmons.
  • First-year students and many transfer students are required to take MCC: Culture Matters during their first year at Simmons. Read a letter from Gary Oakes, Director of MCC, which explains more about the MCC (Multidisciplinary Core Course) requirements and provides you with course descriptions so that you can select your top choices for an MCC class.
  • Are you planning to live on campus? Learn more about Residence Life, applying for housing, and roommate selection by reading the Residence Life section of this newsletter.
  • Are you planning to commute to campus? Do you intend to use the MBTA often? Learn more about the Semester T-Pass program which saves you 11% off of the cost of a monthly pass. Orders are due by Thursday, August 6, 2009!
  • Learn more about Technology at Simmons including what computer and software to buy, how to ensure that you will be able to connect to the Simmons network, and the multitude of Technology resources for students at Simmons.
  • Learn more about Simmons Athletics including the Fall Orientation Rowing Clinic for novice and experienced rowers.

We hope that this newsletter answers many of the questions you may have. If you have any additional questions, please e-mail orientation@simmons.edu or call 617-521-2429.
