The Sickness Well, as you can see in my title, I’m a bit homesick. It took a whole three weeks, but it finally happened. It’s so crazy. I love Simmons and I absolutely love Boston, but I miss my family....

LaShondra The Sickness Well, as you can see in my title, I'm a bit homesick. It took a whole three weeks, but it finally happened. It's so crazy. I love Simmons and I absolutely love Boston, but I miss my family. I feel like I'm missing out on their lives. My mom just had her 25th high school reunion, my cousin give her two-year old daughter a birthday party at my gradmotther's house, my sister is getting ready to start school for ministry, and another one of my cousins graduated from college in September. It made me really sad not to be able to participate in all those things and just be there. I realized how much I actually liked being apart of their lives and how much I want them to be apart of mine. City Wide at Harvard Moving on to a more positive note, I've been spending my Friday nights at Harvard. Every Friday, they have this thing called City Wide and it's where all the Christian college students around Boston come to have a mini service and meet others students around the area who believes in the same thing they do. It's really fun, There is a live band that leads us into praise and worship and then there is a speaker afterwards. It's really cool because you get to meet other students from Harvard, Northeastern, Emerson, Boston College, Boston University, Mass College of Art, Mass College of Pharmacy, and a whole lot more. So, the first night I went, they had a Keg party (Root Beer) afterwards at this house called the Wilson house. It was so much fun. And there was actual root beer in the keg. So we made root beer floats and got to know other people. It was fun and you didn't have to worry about people getting drunk and doing all kinds of crazy things, unlike the parties that go on at MIT. Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire So, because I live in Atlanta, I'm not ale to really leave the campus on the weekends and just get away... UNTIL NOW. Every Fall, City Wide has this fall retreat and they go up to Lake Winnepesaukee in New Hampshire and I'm going. The retreat is 99 dollars and I didn't have the money. So you could sign up for a scholarship and only pay 50, but I get to go for free because the girl who won the free ticket decided she didn't want to go and Amy (the girl who is over the Christian Fellowship Group at Simmons) thought about me and gave to me. So, now I'm going to New Hampshire this weekend. Yay Me!!! "I Have A Dream" Visitor Yay!!! A visitor!!! So, I've been in this program called "I Have A Dream" since I was in third grade and it was really great. They helped us with homework, made sure we were on track in school, they took us on fieldtrips (in state and out of state), they supported us, they showed up to our performances, and they came to our graduations. And they paid for everything we ever did. All we had to do was show up and bring our permission slips. But they best thing they did was pay for me to come to simmons and you pretty know how much that costed. (Thanks to the Sponsors. I really appreciate it and I am enjoying Simmons) But anyways, Ms. Meuse, the projet director of the program came to visit me on Thursday. It was fun hanging out with her. I showed her my room and some of the residence campus. Then I took her Harvard Square and we ate at this place called Fire and Ice. Then we did a little shopping at Copley Square. It was a good day. I had a lot of fun. (Thanks Ms. Meuse for coming. Maybe you can come again and see the main campus) Pictures Sorry guys. Wow, where do I start? Well, my first day of classes was last Wednesday on the 5th and yes, I was a tad-bit nervous just because I didn’t really know what to expect (or how to act) or even what...

LaShondra Therefore, Time Management is KEY. But there is definitely more to college than classes and work (although that is most important. Remember that). But there is also time to have fun, go out, and just get involved. Last weekend, my roommates, other friends, and I all went out to Harvard square. It's really nice, There were a lot of stores to shop at, places to eat, and college kids to meet. It was a fun night .And on Friday, Simmons held a club and organization fair where you could sign up for different things. I signed up for the Christian Fellowship Group and the Black Student Organization. Today, we had our first Bible study which was really good. Last but not least, my roommates are great. I love them so much. We get along very well. We haven't had any issues. We pretty much study at the same time, go to bed around the same time, and are considerate in the mornings when people are still asleep. Two things that are key if you want to get along with your roommate(s) is Communication and Consideration. On the other hand, there is this quad directly above us and I have no idea what they do up there but they make a lot of noise to the point where it sounds like they are going to fall through the ceiling. So, last night, Kate, one of my roommates climbed onto the top bunk with her lacrosse stick and started banging on the ceiling. It was a great moment, Well, I think that's it for now. Well, after waiting and waiting and waiting to start college, while all my other friends began school in August, I finally got my chance. And it’s been absolutely GREAT!!! My mom and I actually came up here two days early...

LaShondra waiting to start college, while all my other friends began school in August, I finally got my chance. And it's been absolutely GREAT!!! My mom and I actually came up here two days early to tour the city and I completely fell in Love with Boston. It's a beautiful city with gorgeous buildings. And the people were so t.v. like. It's my own little fairytale. I think the best thing though was getting to take a cruise in the Boston Harbor. That was really nice. Anyways, so Sunday morning came and it was time to move in and start my life as a college student, First of all, let me say that move in went really smoothly due to all the upperclassmen who helped us with all of our things and transporting them to our room. (Thanks) That was a really big help because I had eight bags total. Three large suitcases, three regular size suitcases, and two bookbags full of clothes and other neccessities. Then it was time to meet my roommates (and all of their family who were helping them move in and unpack.) They are both really great girls. Residence did a really good job with pairing us. Later, I said goodbye to my mom. I thought it was going to be an emotional goodbye but it wasn't at all. It was good though, I guess because we had spent so much "quality time" together during those first two days in Boston. Moving on, orientation has been really fun. They've had some really fun and exciting things planned for us. Last night we watched Fever Pitch out on the Quad and today they had this group called NWC come in a do a two hour show which was REALLY GOOD. So far, I'm really enjoying it. I'm meeting a lot of great people. So, the next thing I have to conquer is the first day of class. LaShondra Well, let’s start with an introduction. My name is LaShondra and I will be a first year student at Simmons in the fall. I’m from Atlanta, Georgia and I’ve lived here my entire life. I am a little bit nervous about going to Boston, but I am so excited. I don’t really know what to expect even after all of the stories I’ve been told, all the questions that have been answered for me, and all the preparation I’ve received. Right now, I’m in the process of getting all my things packed up and trying to figure out how to arrange everything so that it all fits in the limited amount of suitcases I’m allowed to take on the plane. Other than shopping for things I need and packing it all up, I’ve been trying to spend as much time as I can with friends and family. As the time for me to leave draws closer and closer, I find myself getting even more emotional. It’s going to be really hard for me to leave all the people that I love so much, but I’m definitely looking forward to everything that’s in store for me. New friends, new “family”, new adventures, new opportunities, and a brand new city that exactly 1,116.24 miles away from my house. With that said, I will be sure to update you as much as possible as I take on college life and everything that comes with it. JOIN ME FOR THE RIDE!!!
