last breath of summer

The summer is winding down and it seems like I am cramming as much fun into these last weeks as possible. I just got back from Hawaii which was amazing. I have been there before, but not to Kauai. My dad won a condo on the island from a faculty raffle at Mount Holyoke where he and my mother work. We went horse-back-riding, snorkled, hiked, and most of all relaxed. The view from the condo was great…the ocean was right there and you could see the sun rise every morning without even getting out of bed. It seems like a totally different world now that I am back here in MA. We actually stayed two extra days (but in Honolulu, not Kauai) because my mother wanted to see the house of Doris Duke in Honolulu. Doris Duke inherited her father’s wealth and (after being intrigued by the Taj Mahal on her honeymoon)spent her life collecting art from the middle east and has a mansion in Honolulu. When she was nearing the end of her life, she decided to make her mansion into a museum and so now people can visit it. The house was incredible.

So anyway I am back. It is Sunday August 21st and on Tuesday I am going to Maine (anual trip) until Saturday. Then Sunday the 28th is my birthday. On Monday the 29th my friend Jenny invited me and some other friends to go to New York until Tuesday. I am very excited. I hope the trip works out. Jenny’s birthday is August 26th so it is almost a celebration for both of our birthdays (we’ll both be 18). On September 2nd, I have my book 7 Suzuki piano recital which is big because it is my last book (the last book in the Suzuki series too) and my last time playing the piano with my teacher I have had since I was 5 years old. Two days later, I’ll be moving to Simmons!

I am excited for school. I have so many things going on right now, I haven’t had much time to pack. I do have a lot of things ready to go though. I am nervous, but also happy to be going to college. I have 2 roommates which should be an experience because I am an only child. I have been on summer programs though with other people for long periods of time so it should be fine. We’ll see what the next few weeks bring!

Until Later -Hannah M.

2 weeks until classes start..... :)

Hey I’m Hannah and this is my first entry (and I am in Hawaii)! I have not had internet access for the past week, but now I do. My parents and I decided to stay here two more days because we are having so much fun (we have flown to Honolulu from Kauai though). I am on the hotel computer so I do not have much time, but I will write more and post pictures when I get home on Sunday August 21. Until then! Hannah M.
