Information for Students
Participate in this year's conference on May 1! This is a great opportunity to show off the hard work you've done, practice your professional skills, network, and enhance your resumé!
Not sure what goes on at the Undergraduate Conference? See the project titles and participants of last year's panel sessions and poster session. Also check out this slideshow of pictures from last year's conference.
Important things to know:
You may participate individually or as a group.
You may participate in either a panel session or a poster session:
- A panel session is a slate of 3 to 5 presentations, usually grouped together by theme or discipline. Participants present their work for about 15 minutes each, and then answer questions from the audience. Panel sessions allow for an in depth look at students' scholarship.
- A poster session is an opportunity for students to present their work visually and engage in conversations about their work with conference attendees. Poster sessions provide an informal but scholarly environment for browsing and discussion.
Ready to participate? Here's what you need to do by April 8:
- Choose a project or paper you've done or are currently doing for a class. It can still be a work in progress!
- Discuss your intention to submit with a faculty mentor—probably the professor of the course you did the work for.
- Submit a project proposal to the conference committee.*
*If you are a member of a group that would like to participate:
- Submit only ONE project proposal per group.
- Choose one member of the group to be the spokesperson.
- The spokesperson will submit the group's proposal and be the point of contact between the conference committee and the group.
Submit your Project Proposal
Please note: Project proposals must be submitted using the form below. They will not be accepted over email.
That's it! In the first two weeks of April, Elizabeth Brown or Terry Müller will contact you to confirm your participation in the conference and tell you what you need to know for the conference day. Continue to work with your faculty mentor to get your project ready for the big day!
Information for Faculty Mentors
Your role as faculty mentor is critical to your students' successful participation. We ask that you...
- Encourage your students to participate in the conference.
- Work with interested students on identifying an appropriate project/paper to submit.
- Mentor students through process of submitting a proposal. (See directions for students above.)
- Email Terry Müller at terry.muller@simmons.edu with the names of students whose proposals you recommend.
- Coach students as they prepare for conference day.
More details and guidelines for participating students will follow from the conference committee.
The committee will make every effort to accommodate all projects recommended by faculty.
