Americorps Student Leaders in Service is a part-time Americorps program sponsored by Massachusetts Campus Compact and facilitated through the Scott/Ross Center for Community Service at Simmons. Americorps Student Leaders in Service who perform 300 hours of volunteer service within one year receive a $1175 education award and those who perform 450 hours of volunteer service within one year receive a $1486 education award. The education award is a voucher that can be used to pay education costs at qualified institutions of higher education or to repay qualified student loans. Field placement and federal work study hours can count towards your hours of service. The only volunteer activities that are not allowed are those prohibited by Americorps, including lobbying, political, religious, and some advocacy activities. In addition, the Simmons ASLIS members participate in a variety of group community service activities with community service partners, including: The Women's Lunch Place, Fenway Gardens, Mt. Pleasant Senior Home, Community Servings, and St. Francis House.
