Americorps in Action at Simmons
Americorps members pledge to bring Americans together, to strengthen our communities and get things done. Here at Simmons, we greatly benefit from our Americorps VISTAS and Student Leaders in Service. These dedicated members commit to fulfilling and promoting service and volunteerism throughout their year of service. Amanda Moser, our 2011-2012 MACC Americorps*VISTA spent the year on the Simmons campus supporting S/RC students and focusing on partners in the Mission Hill area. This summer, Anna D'Avanzo '12 has worked with Sociedad Latina staff and middle school students assisting with their summer program. Next month we welcome our new AmericorpsVISTA Kate Loughlin.

In the fall, we will recruit close over 30 Simmons students to participate in the Americorp Student Leaders in Service (ASLIS) program, where they will complete 300 hours of service throughout the school year and receive recognition for their leadership and service to our community partners with an Americorps education award. In addition, they will volunteer as a team at S/RC community partners such as the Fenway Victory Gardens, Community Servings and Mount Pleasant Home.
Over the past year, the Simmons students and staff have contributed over 3,000 hours of volunteer service through the Americorps program. This program is made possible through our partnership with Massachusetts Campus Compact.
You probably know someone who is or has been involved in Americorps, over 80,000 Americans participate annually and generate impact and results for underserved communities in our cities and towns. This is a very important government funded program that generates high return on investment. We greatly appreciate the hard work and commitment contributed by our Americorps members on campus. Thank you!
