Holiday Giving and the Simmons Spirit

The winter holidays can be a time of celebration and joy but can also be stressful and sad. For many of the community partners that we work with, their clients feel all of the above. Lucky for them (and for us) they have put together programs to make sure that no one is left without some recognition over the holidays.

This year, we asked the Simmons community to contribute to two holiday gift giving initiatives - one with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Boston (BGCB) and the other with Community Servings. I am happy to report that the Simmons community responded strongly with all the gift requests being fulfilled with plenty of time to spare. The Simmons library team stepped in to help with many of the requests. We also collaborated with Operation Warm to provide over 30 warm coats to middle schoolers from BGCB - their priority wish list item.

There is still opportunity to contribute the week of December 5th we need help wrapping the coats. All are invited to stop by the S/RC and help. We have the coats and the wrapping materials.

Also, if you are planning to volunteer this holiday season, individuals, groups, families, and schools can pledge to make a difference this season and Hasbro will match each pledge by donating a toy through Toys for Tots. Just register and they will ensure that a toy is donated to a child in need for every volunteer activity that you participate in. Double the impact from your volunteer efforts!

And of course volunteers are needed at many of our partner sites throughout the year. Stop by the Scott/Ross Center and we would be happy to help you find a community organization to partner with.
