The semester has come to a close and the past couple of weeks have been filled with students completing service projects. It is a great time of year as we reflect on what has been accomplished but also bittersweet as we say goodbye to students who have been such valuable team members.
During the Scott/Ross Recognition Reception we honored the Women's Lunch Place as our Community Partner of the Year. Along with recognizing outstanding students with the following special awards:
- Alyssa Arevalo '09, GS'10 - Distinguished Civic Engagement Graduate Student
- Rachel Czubryt '10 - Judy Botehlo Award
- Annie Dunbar '10 - Jennifer McKee Award
- Elissa Zeno '10 - Service Learning Leadership Award
It is such a pleasure to hear about the students' involvement with the community and the life long and life changing experiences. Students gain leadership and strategic decision making skills along with a better understanding of their community and civic reflection interests.
Service learning project also were finalized this month. Simmons students accomplished a wide variety of work for and with community partners.
Looking forward - this week GSLIS held a service week at the Mission Hill School Library and so far have catalogued over 1500 books as the school tries to get their whole collection catalogued. Promising Pals will meet their Timilty School student pals at a breakfast in June and the MBA program will kick off a service learning course over the summer. We have begun planning for the fall semester and look forward to some exciting projects.
