For Undergraduates: Career Planning & Resources

Adult Learners (Dix Scholars)

Welcome Dix Scholars! This resource page is just for adult learners in the Simmons undergraduate college. Please review the information below and you will be better prepared to manage your career development process at Simmons.

Get an Early Start!

As an adult student, managing your time well is especially important since you may be attending college full or part-time and juggling work and/or family responsibilities as well. Meeting with a career coach early in your studies to map out and tailor your career development plan will ensure that you are well positioned to embark on your next career steps.

Customized Support and Services

Your CEC career coach will help you assess your strengths and accomplishments, clarify your career goals, and develop the skills and strategies to attain them. In preparation for your job search your coach will assist you with analyzing, articulating, and packaging your academic and work experience to effectively market yourself to employers. This is especially important for students who will be making a career change upon graduation.

See the Career Toolkit for guidance on topics such as writing a resume and cover letter, creating your introductory networking speech, interviewing skills, and more.

In addition, the CEC will provide support in planning and managing your job search and helping you make informed decisions about the career you are preparing for now, as well as future career transitions.

Career Programs and Events

The CEC also sponsors a broad range of career events and programs including career fairs, employer visits, skill-building workshops, alumnae/i panels, and more. Among these are Mock Interview Days and LinkedIn Labs. You will want o take advantage of these as well. Check out the calendar of upcoming career events.
