CEC Services

Each year, more than 400 alumnae/i use the Career Education Center. If you are in the early stages of your career and evaluating career choices, or in mid- to later-career and considering a change, the CEC is a great resource for you. Let us help you succeed!

The following is a list of services the CEC offers alumnae/i:

Individual Career Coaching

The CEC's career development professionals have expertise in providing personalized career coaching. One-on-one meetings with the Career Education staff provide personal advice to help you address your career concerns, from discovering your strengths and interests to exploring career options, developing your resume, preparing to interview or negotiate, and much more. Learn more about the CEC's Career Coaching here.

Career Workshops and Programs

Workshops and career programs can provide valuable career information and help build job search skills. A broad range of topics can be addressed, from resumes and cover letters, to choosing a major, to creating a job search strategy, and much more. Many of these programs are delivered at the CEC or elsewhere on campus. As an alum you can take advantage of these opportunities to learn more and help boost your own career development. See the CEC Events calendar for upcoming programs.

Career Fairs and Employer Recruiting Events

Throughout the year a variety of employers are invited on campus to recruit at Simmons for internship and full-time positions. This includes career fairs, some of which are targeted and others of which are broader in scope. Many of these events are open to alumnae/i. See the CEC Events Calendar  for a list of upcoming on- and off-campus career fairs and related employer events.

Handshake Job Listings

The CEC also maintains Handshake, an online job board with listings posted for Simmons students and alums. It carries internships, full-time and part-time jobs, and even some volunteer opportunities that are career-related. Learn more about Handshake here

Beatley Library Career Resources

The CEC collaborates with Beatley Library to develop and maintain a broad and deep set of resources on career topics. There is both a dedicated space for the print "Career Resources" collection and a rich array of online resources, accessible through a main Career Resources page and via numerous individual links. The e-library houses dozens of career guides providing information on researching market trends, salary information, and competitive intelligence, among numerous other career topics. Beatley Library is staffed by research librarians who specialize in different fields and are available to provide personalized career assistance as well.

CEC Social Media

You can keep up with the CEC by following us in a variety of social media sites, including our own Facebook and Twitter pages. Watch for regular updates on those pages throughout the year — and let us know what you think! We are also active participants in the Simmons Alumnae/i LinkedIn group, which any Simmons alum with a LinkedIn account can join.

Additional Career Services for Simmons Alumnae/i

In addition to the foregoing services, the CEC offers the following specifically for Simmons alumnae/i:

Career Health Program for Women in Transition

The CEC provides a unique program designed for mid-career women facing changes in their professional lives. Called "Career Health Program: Women in Transition," the series of six group sessions, facilitated by CEC Director Andrea Wolf, allows participants to engage in a process that aligns their personal and career goals with viable options and strategies for their own Career Health. Networking Events

In conjunction with the Office of Alumnae/i Relations (OAR), from time to time the CEC offers networking events for Simmons alums. Most often these will be offered around the time of other campus events, such as Reunion, or on the road at regional alumnae/i gatherings. Stay tuned to the calendar of events on the Alumnet website for upcoming career-related events for alums. This includes school and program-specific (eg, undergraduate, SLIS, etc.) events as well those for all Simmons alums.
