For the second year in a row, award winning activist and spoken word poet Andrea Gibson is coming to perform at Simmons College. Originally from Maine, she eventually landed in Colorado where she began attending open mic nights. By 2008, she was the first ever winner of the Women of the World Poetry Slam and a four time Denver Grand Slam Champion. Her poems are personal, emotional, and breath taking that leaves the listener thinking.
She delivers powerful readings on politics, LGBTQ, gender, bullying, class, sexuality, love and more. Gibson has several books and four full-length albums out. These combine a mix of simple spoken word poems along with others tracks that have piano, guitar and other instrumental accompaniments. She is also part of the group Vox Feminista and has appeared at Take Back the Night events, Pride events, Trans events, anti-war rallies, and peace rallies. You can see her for yourself live Wednesday February 22nd in Alumnae Hall. Doors open at 7:30 pm and the show will begin at 8 pm.
The Simmons Alliance invites Simmons College students, faculty, staff and Colleges of the Fenway members. RSVP on eventbright. Must have valid ID, first priority will be given to those with tickets.
