I'm Literally Going to Dental School!
Hi everyone! I hope you are having a great summer so far. As for me, I love every moment in Michigan and everyone here is amazing! I really miss my family and friends and I can't wait to see everyone when I get back!
So here at the Profiles for Success summer program, I spend most of my days with future dental professionals where we connect, sit, and study all day. I say future dental professionals because we all aren't actually in dental school yet but we all aspire to become dentists, which I know we will all succeed. It's great to be around people who share a common interest and although we have so much in common, we are all so different in our own ways! I love the positive atmosphere here. Everyone is just looking to succeed and we all are helping and supporting one another to reach our greatest potential in order to achieve our goals of getting into dental school.
Our days have consisted of guest lecturers, a lot of reading, studying, and testing! In a strange way, I feel like I am a dental student right now; and that the things that I am learning, the way I am dressed (there's a dress code), the way that my days are structured, are similar to that of a dental student's daily activity. This really inspires me. Every day, when I walk into the University of Michigan Dental building I think, "wow, I'm actually literally going to Dental School". It's very refreshing but I know that I cannot lose my focus and I must remember what I need to accomplish before I can daydream that far into my future; which is scoring a competitive DAT (standardized test) score.
Program aside, I've been having a hard time staying motivated for my volleyball team and preseason right now because all I can think about is studying and getting into dental school (maybe that is just an excuse because I think I'm really just being lazy :P). I know what I am capable of and I am going to push myself so when preseason comes, I will be physically fit and mentally ready for all the challenges my coach will put upon us. I am ready! I found a few athletes to work out with but I have been having a back problem for a couple of weeks now. I am nursing myself back to health and I am ready to perform!
Below is a video of me canoeing in Ann Arbor talking about my experience. Don't laugh at me! :P I've always wanted to canoe or kayak and after this experience, I can't wait go bungee-jumping, skydiving, scuba diving, water rafting, and MORE! What are some activities that you want to do this summer?
