LEXINGTON, Ky. -- Simmons Head Volleyball Coach Alesia Vaccari was named a Thirty Under 30 award recipient by the American Volleyball Coaches Association Thursday. The award was created in 2009 to honor up-and-coming coaching talent across all levels of the sport of volleyball. To be eligible for the award, nominees had to be 30 years old or younger in 2011.

Flynn Selected to NEWVA All-New England Senior Classic
November 16, 2011 SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) was selected as one of New England’s top 33 Division III senior volleyball players announced by the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA) Tuesday afternoon. Sharks Volleyball Falls to Emerson in Semifinals
November 4, 2011 BOSTON, Mass. – The #4 ranked Simmons Volleyball team fell to the #1 Emerson College Lions Thursday night in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference semifinals. The Lions defeated the Sharks in four, with scores of 25-15, 25-16, 24-26 and 25-15. The win puts the Lions in the GNAC Finals where they'll face the Rivier Raiders.

Sharks Advance to GNAC Semifinals for First Time in Program History
BOSTON, Mass. -- The Simmons Volleyball team defeated the Norwich University Cadets 3-2 (21-25, 21-25, 26-24, 25-20, 15-11), Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference quarterfinal action. The Sharks dropped the first two games but fought hard in the third game, edging out a 26-24 victory before finding their rhythm in the final games. Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) finished with a 0.389 hitting percentage for the evening, a season’s best.

GNAC Women's Volleyball 2011 Playoff Schedule Announced
October 30, 2011 Simmons Volleyball is ranked #4 as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference announced the Playoff schedule today. Connolly Named to NCAA Division III National SAAC Committee
BOSTON, Mass. – Sharks volleyball sophomore Nafeesa Connolly (Natick, Mass.) was named to the NCAA Division III National Student Athlete Advisory Committee last week, where she will represent the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and Simmons College through May of 2014. The appointment to the National Committee is a first for Simmons.

QUINCY, Mass. – Simmons volleyball defeated the Eastern Nazarene Lions in a non-conference match-up Saturday morning in front of students and alumni who were in town for Homecoming Weekend. BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons Volleyball hosted a tri-match with Great Northeast Athletic Conference rivals Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) Monks and the Lasell College Lasers on Saturday at the Holmes Sports Center. The Sharks did not drop a game in a sweep of the Monks 3-0, with scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 25-23 and later were victorious over the Lasers 3-0, with scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 25-22. Simmons moves to 6-0 in the GNAC (13-4 overall) with the wins while the Monks move to 11-4 (4-2 GNAC) and the Lasers fall to 7-10 overall and 1-3 in the GNAC.

Mountaineers Top Sharks 3-0 in Volleyball
BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons Volleyball was defeated by the Southern Vermont Mountaineers 3-0 Thursday evening at Simmons College in non-conference play. SVC improved to 17-2 with the victory over while the Sharks fell to 11-4 overall. The Mountaineers won by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-14. Mountaineer’s senior captain Hershey Canta recorded 28 assists in the game including her 1000th in her career.

WENHAM, Mass. – Simmons Volleyball competed in the Gordon Invitational Saturday, defeating Bay Path College and Framingham State College 3-0, and fell only to the Fighting Scots in a hard fought three games to two. Volleyball 2010 Season Preview
August 25, 2010 Simmons Volleyball is preparing for the 2010 season after a successful 2009 campaign. The Sharks ended last season with an appearance in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament, reaching the quarterfinals after a 13-15 season (7-5 GNAC), and tying the program record for most wins in a regular season (13). Led by fourth-year Head Coach Jason Conetta, the Sharks hope to solidify the program after three years of rapid growth, and finish in the top four of the GNAC tournament in 2010. “This will be a memorable season for the Simmons Volleyball team,” said Conetta. “I have witnessed the growth of this program from a group of individuals into a family. We have been building the foundation of this program for several years, and we aim to demonstrate our development on the court this fall.”

Athletes Honored at Annual Evening of Champions Awards Ceremony
Five student athletes were honored and one alumna was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Department of Athletics’ annual Evening of Champions awards ceremony on May 5, 2010. At the end of each academic year, athletes from each Simmons varsity team are recognized for their academic and athletic achievements. Five individual awards concluded the evening to distinguish the athletes that stood out among their peers during the year.

Volleyball 2009 Season In Review
November 30, 2009 Simmons Volleyball ended the 2009 season with an appearance in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament, reaching the quarterfinals after a 13-15 season (7-5 GNAC). Led by Head Coach Jason Conetta, the Sharks racked up the second-most wins for the program for the second year in a row. Simmons also earned the best GNAC finish since 1999 as the 6th seed heading into the conference tournament, after being ranked 8th in the preseason poll. “Watching the players fight for victories this season was the most inspiring feeling I have taken from my three years here at Simmons College. We as a team agree that we did not expect our regular season record of 13-15, however we also can agree we had no idea we could play as well as we did in the last few games,” said Coach Conetta.

November 6, 2009 Sophomore OH Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) was named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Second Team, and sophomore Krista Evans (Killen, Ala.) earned a spot on the All-Conference Sportsmanship Team, the GNAC announced Friday evening. Volleyball Sweeps Conference Tri-Match

Simmons Sharks Dig Pink!
October is the official Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Simmons Athletics wants to do its part. The Sharks will participate by providing pink ribbons to our fans at all home games this weekend, for a small donation. 100% of the donations will go directly to the Susan G. Komen For The Cure Foundation. This grassroots organization is now the leading source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer in the world.

Volleyball Splits GNAC Tri-Match
October 19, 2009 Simmons Volleyball hosted Saint Joseph’s Maine and Rivier on Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match. The Sharks pulled out a 3-0 win over the visiting Monks, but fell to the Raiders 3-0. With the split, Simmons improves to 4-3 in the conference, and 10-13 overall.

Volleyball Tops Newbury, 3-1
October 8, 2009 Simmons Volleyball earned a 3-1 win over local non-conference program Newbury College on Wednesday night, playing their first game at home in four weeks. The Sharks relished their home court advantage, and with the victory improve to 8-10 overall, and remain at 2-1 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Volleyball Extends GNAC Streak, Defeats Suffolk 3-0
October 2, 2009 Simmons Volleyball swept Thursday evening’s Great Northeast Athletic Conference match vs. Suffolk, 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-20). With the win, the Sharks improve to 7-9 overall, 2-0 GNAC, and the Rams fall to 2-3 GNAC, 5-7 overall. Only Simmons, Emmanuel an Emerson remain undefeated in the conference at this point in the season, with the Sharks sitting in third place in the standings.

Volleyball Competes at Ramapo Classic
Simmons Volleyball traveled to the 2009 Ramapo Roadrunner Classic in Mahwah, N.J. on Saturday to take on three non-conference teams. The Sharks fell to Baruch College (3-1), Ramapo (3-0), and USMMA (3-1). The Sharks now stand at 6-9 overall, 1-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.

Volleyball Seizes GNAC Opener vs. Pine Manor, 3-0
September 16, 2009 Simmons Volleyball upended Pine Manor 3-0 in their Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener on Tuesday night, besting the Gators in three sets, 25-8, 25-14 and 25-11. With the win, Simmons improves to 5-6 overall, 1-0 GNAC, and Pine Manor falls to 1-2 (0-1 GNAC) in the defeat.

Sharks Dominate UMD Invitational, Capture Second Place
September 13, 2009 Simmons Volleyball traveled to Dartmouth, Mass. on Friday and Saturday to compete in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, and finished the weekend with a 3-1 record for the tournament, good for second place behind host UMass Dartmouth. Senior captain Amanda Weaver (Eaton, Ohio) received All-Tournament Team Honors.

Fionte Named to 2009 Emerson/Wentworth All-Tournament Team
September 5, 2009 Simmons Volleyball competed in the 2009 Emerson/Wentworth Women’s Volleyball Invitational All-Tournament Team this weekend. The Sharks took on four teams over two days, and emerged from the tournament with one win over Wentworth, and the selection of sophomore outside hitter Kate Fionte (Andover, Mass.) to the All-Tournament Team.

Volleyball Drops Match to WPI in Season Opener, 3-2

Volleyball 2009 Season Preview
August 24, 2009 Simmons Volleyball is about to embark on another season under Head Coach Jason Conetta, who in 2008 led the team to its first winning season since 1999, in his second year at the helm of the program. The Sharks closed the season with a 13-11 overall record, and a 6-6 mark in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Sharks also entered the GNAC postseason with its highest-ever 7th seed ranking.

Volleyball Ranked 8th in GNAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll
August 28, 2009 Simmons Volleyball earned the number eight ranking in Great Northeast Athletic Conference preseason voting, the conference office announced on Wednesday. The Sharks achieved a seventh seed in the 2008 GNAC Tournament, after posting a 13-11 overall record and 6-6 GNAC record. This marks the first time since the expansion to 13 teams in the GNAC that Simmons Volleyball has been ranked in the preseason poll.

Sharks Earn 2008-09 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 501 student-athletes from 15 league sports on the 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. Simmons boasted 38 athletes who received the honor, and all seven of the Simmons varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC were represented on this year’s Academic All-Conference team.

Freshman Outside Hitter Makes History for Simmons Volleyball
November 13, 2008 After winning the most games in Simmons Volleyball history the Sharks volleyball program has made history yet again. Conference officials announced this week that freshman outside hitter Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and was selected to the All-Conference second team, marking the first time in program history that a player has claimed GNAC Rookie of the Year honors. Sophomore middle hitter Shamika Johnson (Springfield, Mass.) was selected as Simmons’ Sportsmanship Award honoree.

Volleyball 2008 Season In Review
November 11, 2008 Simmons Volleyball closed out the 2008 season with a 13-11 overall record, and a 6-6 mark in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. This was a complete turnaround for second-year Head Coach Jason Conetta’s Sharks, whose overall record at the close of 2007 was 8-14. Simmons entered the 2008 GNAC tournament as 7th seed, the program’s highest ranking and first winning season since 1999.

Volleyball Falls to Johnson & Wales, 3-0 in Conference Quarterfinals
November 4, 2008 - The Simmons College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision, by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-22 to GNAC front-runner Johnson & Wales at the Harborside Recreation Center on Tuesday evening in the conference quarterfinals. With the loss, the Sharks finish the season with a 13-12 overall record, GNAC 6-6, while the Wildcats improve to 25-12, GNAC 11-1 and advance to the conference semifinals to face Emerson.

Simmons Volleyball Splits Conference Tri-Match
The Simmons College volleyball team split a tri-meet vs. Norwich University and Suffolk University in Northfield, Vt. on Saturday. The Sharks fell to Norwich 3-0, by scores of 25-18, 25-14 and 28-26.
