GNAC Tennis All-Conference Teams Announced: Eskenazi Named Rookie of the Year
BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons freshman Nicole Eskenazi (Goleta, Calif.) was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tennis Rookie of the Year Monday, as the GNAC announced its 2011 All-Conference tennis teams. Eskenazi went 18-0 in the conference in her rookie campaign and was an integral part of the Sharks undefeated championship season.

Simmons Tennis Captures 4th Consecutive GNAC Championship
October 23, 2011 BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons Tennis team defeated the Emerson College Lions 6-3 on Sunday afternoon to claim their fourth consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship and complete their undefeated season, 10-0.

Simmons Tennis Returns to GNAC Finals
BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons Tennis team defeated the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats 5-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference semifinals on a breezy Saturday afternoon. The Sharks will host the GNAC Championship match tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 p.m. vs. the winner of Emerson College and Emmanuel College.

GNAC Women’s Tennis Playoff Preview
Simmons secured first place with an outstanding undefeated conference record of 8-0 and overall record of 10-3. The Sharks were 2008 and 2009 GNAC Champions and have entered the tournament the past two seasons in the top seed in the tournament.

Sharks Tennis Shines at NEWITT
AMHERST, Mass. – In preparation for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament that begins next week, the Simmons tennis team competed in the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) this weekend, posting a 3-7 singles record and 2-3 record in doubles versus players from Brandeis University, Williams College, Curry College, and Springfield College.

Sharks Tennis Defeats AMCATS For 10th Straight Win
PAXTON, Mass. – The Simmons College women’s tennis team defeated Anna Maria, 9-0, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match-up Wednesday afternoon at the Paxton Sports Centre. With the win Simmons improves to 10-3 overall and remain undefeated in conference play (9-0) and the AMCATS drop to 5-8 (2-5 GNAC). The victory also increases the Sharks winning streak to 10 games, a program best.

Sharks Tennis Sweep Weekly GNAC Awards

Salmela had a stellar week for the Sharks, posting a 4-0 record. Freshman Nicole Eskenazi (Goleta, Calif.) was named GNAC Rookie of the Week on Monday after a 4-0 week for the Sharks. Simmons Tennis Claims Victory Over Wildcats 7-2
October 2, 2011 CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons Tennis moved to 6-3 overall and 5-0 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Sunday with a win over the Johnson and Wales University Wildcats 7-2 in conference play. Shouldering the loss, the Wildcats fall to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the GNAC. Due to the potential for rain, the match was moved to the inside courts at MIT.

Sharks Hand Saints 1st Loss of the Season
BOSTON, Mass. – The Simmons Sharks handed Emmanuel College Women’s Tennis its first loss of the 2011 season this afternoon, falling 8-1. The local rivalry featured both Colleges of the Fenway (COF) teams playing on their home courts at the Winsor School. Simmons Tennis Rolls Past Lions
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Simmons Tennis defeated the Emerson College Lions 6-3 on Saturday on the courts at MIT to remain undefeated in the GNAC. The young Lions showed talent and poise, taking some tough matches from the Sharks, but their effort was unsuccessful. The Sharks moved to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the GNAC while the Lions are now 2-3 overall and 2-1 in GNAC conference action.

Eskenazi Wins Tiebreaker For Simmons Tennis Win
BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons Tennis came from behind to defeat Mount Holyoke College 5-4 at The Winsor School courts Friday evening, giving the Sharks their first win of the 2011 season. Mount Holyoke College led 2-1 after the doubles matches. The Lyons increased their lead to 3-1 after AnnElizabeth Konkel (Camp Hill, Pa.) defeated Simmons sophomore Rachel Sweeney (Norfolk, Mass.). Margaret Teague was victorious at the #1 Singles position defeating Nahrhee Han (Albertson, N.J.), narrowing the deficit to 3-2. Simmons Tennis Swept By Brandeis University
WALTHAM, Mass. – Simmons Tennis was swept by Brandeis University this evening 9-0 at Rieger Tennis Courts. The Judges did not drop a set and had four 6-0 sets in singles action. Simmons sophomore Margaret Teague (Manchester, N.H.) led Brandeis freshman Carley Cooke (San Diego, Calif.) 5-2 in the first before Cooke battled back to win her collegiate debut 7-6, 6-0. Sharks sophomore Allison Bodek (Lynnfield, Mass.) had a tight match versus Roberta Bergstein (Hingham, Mass.) but fell 6-4, 7-5 at the #3 Singles position.

Tennis Named 2011 ITA All-Academic Team
July 18, 2011 Simmons Tennis was named a 2011 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III All-Academic Team for the fourth year in a row, the ITA announced. In addition, seven sharks received Scholar-Athlete honors for maintaining a 3.5 or greater GPA for the 2010-11 academic year.

Sharks Ready for NCAA Tennis Tournament First Round
May 10, 2011 Simmons College Tennis will travel to Amherst, Mass. on May 13, 2011 for the first round of the 2011 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships. Simmons will face New Paltz at Amherst College, as announced Monday afternoon by the NCAA. The winner of that match will take on top-ranked Amherst (16-2) in the second round on Saturday. Tennis Ranked #20 in the Northeast

Tennis 2010 Season Preview
September 1, 2010 Simmons Tennis returns in 2010 after the most successful season in school history last year. The Sharks captured the 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship title for the fifth time in six years after a dominating 8-0 regular season GNAC performance. August 16, 2010 Simmons Tennis was named a 2010 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division III All-Academic Team, the ITA announced this month. In addition, Jordan Borash (Marblehead, Mass.), Katy Hallinan (Maynard, Mass.), Athena Lynch (Andover, Mass.) and Maggie Taylor (Yarmouth, Maine) were given Scholar-Athlete honors. Taylor and Borash are both first-time honorees, while Hallinan has made the team three times, and Lynch has been honored twice.

Tennis Falls to #1 Amherst in NCAA Second Round
AMHERST, MA – Amherst College earned a 5-0 win over Simmons College Saturday afternoon in the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Regional Championship Second Round. The Sharks end their season at 15-8, while the Lord Jeffs improve to 18-2 and will host either Middlebury or Bowdoin College Sunday at 1 p.m. in the regional finals.

Tennis Advances in NCAA Tournament

Tennis 2009 Season in Review
November 16, 2009 Simmons Tennis wrapped up the fall 2009 season after capturing the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament Championship for the fifth time in six years, and securing a #24 ranking among Northeast Division III programs from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association—the highest ever ITA ranking for Simmons. The Sharks turned in a perfect 8-0 regular season GNAC performance, amounting to a 68-4 record in individual conference matches. “Overall, this was a very successful fall season,” said Head Coach Bob Rauseo. “Despite a rigorous schedule and some key injuries we managed to go 68-4. That’s a record that will probably never be equaled.”

In addition, Macleod and Salmela were named to the GNAC First Team for doubles. Macleod was also named to the All-Conference Sportsmanship Team.

October 19, 2009 Simmons Tennis competed at the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT), held at Middlebury College on Friday and Saturday. Despite facing some very strong competition, the Sharks managed to finish the weekend with a 3-3 record. "Overall, the quality of tennis was very high,” said Head Coach Bob Rauseo. “Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.), Maile Macleod (Carlsbad, Calif.) and Jordan Borash (Marblehead, Mass.) all played elimination matches and came through with wins. This was some of our best tennis of the season."

Tennis Captures Weekly GNAC Honors
October 14, 2009 Simmons junior Maile Macleod (Carlsbad, Calif.) has been named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tennis Player of the Week, and freshman Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) was named GNAC Tennis Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday evening. This is the second POW honor for Macleod this season, while Salmela has swept ROW honors for each of the five weeks of the fall 2009 season.

Tennis Wins Conference Doubleheader, Salmela Earns GNAC Rookie 4th Week in a Row
October 5, 2009 Simmons Tennis swept Albertus Magnus, 9-0, and Emerson College, 8-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday. Both games were rescheduled due to rain earlier in the season. With the win, the Sharks improve to 8-4 overall and a perfect 6-0 GNAC mark. Freshman Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) improved to 4-0 in #1 singles on the week, and earned her fourth GNAC Rookie of the Week honor of the season after defeating three GNAC opponents (JWU, Albertus, Emerson) and a NEWMAC opponent from Mount Holyoke.

Tennis Notches GNAC Win vs. Johnson and Wales, 8-1
September 30, 2009 Simmons Tennis racked up another Great Northeast Athletic Conference win on Tuesday evening over Johnson and Wales, dropping only #1 doubles to the Wildcats as they sailed to an 8-1 victory. September 13, 2009 Simmons Tennis fell to the Brandeis Judges on Sunday, 9-0. In #1 singles, Simmons freshman Sabrina Salmela (Beverly, Mass.) gave Rachel Rosman plenty of trouble in the first set before Rosman, ranked #41 in the country, won the match 7-6, 6-0.

Tennis 2009 Season Preview
August 24, 2009 Simmons Tennis is poised to begin the 2009 season after a successful 2008 campaign. The Sharks finished 2008 with a 12-6 overall record, and a 9-0 run against Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponents. Simmons captured the 2008 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship for the fourth time in five years, and in doing so qualified for the 2009 NCAA Tournament. The team, led by Head Coach Bob Rauseo, the 2008 GNAC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year, finished the season ranked 25th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in the New England region, tying a program high set in 2007.

Hallinan and Lynch Named 2009 ITA Scholar-Athletes
August 3, 2009 Simmons Tennis athletes Katy Hallinan (Lakeville, Mass.) and Athena Lynch (Andover, Mass.) received 2009 Scholar-Athlete honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Among the Division III Women to receive the Scholar-Athlete award, Hallinan and Lynch were the only Great Northeast Athletic Conference athletes to earn the honors.

Sharks Earn 2008-09 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 501 student-athletes from 15 league sports on the 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. Simmons boasted 38 athletes who received the honor, and all seven of the Simmons varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC were represented on this year’s Academic All-Conference team.

Tennis Ranked 25th in Northeast
May 5, 2009 In the final week before Simmons Tennis competes in the NCAA Division III Tournament, the Sharks have been ranked 25th among Northeast Division III programs. The May 1 ranking, administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, is the highest-ever for Simmons this late in the spring season.

Tennis Wins NCAA Prep Match vs. Endicott, 6-3

November 12, 2008 Simmons Tennis finished the 2008 campaign with an 11-5 overall record, and a 7-0 run against Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponents. The Sharks captured the GNAC Championship for the fourth time in five years. Head Coach Bob Rauseo received GNAC Coach of the Year honors for the third time in four years. Katy Hallinan (Lakeville, Mass.), Maile Macloed (Carlsbad, Calif.), Maggie Taylor (Yarmouth, Maine) and Stacey Kohan (Milford, Conn.) each received GNAC All-Conference honors at the close of the 2008 season. Simmons is now the 10th-ranked Division III team in Massachusetts, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Tennis Captures Fourth GNAC Tournament Title
October 26, 2008 - The No. 1-seeded Simmons tennis team knocked off third-seeded Johnson and Wales, 6-3, on Sunday evening at the Weymouth Club to claim it’s fourth Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tennis Championship in the last five years. The Sharks, the best team in the conference all season long, enjoyed a successful start to the tournament with a 7-2 win over fifth seed Emerson on Saturday in the tournament semifinals.

The Simmons College tennis team traveled to Providence, R.I. to take on Johnson & Wales University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match up. The Sharks defeated Johnson & Wales 6-3, improving to 4-3 overall (GNAC 3-0). Johnson & Wales is now 2-2 overall (GNAC 2-1).
