Erica Mastrogiacomo enters her fourth year
as Simmons's head soccer coach, Coordinator of the Athletic Department's Lifelong Exercise and
Activities (LEAP) program and Director of the college's Swim, Sports & Activity School. In her
first season as head coach, Mastrogiacomo led the Sharks to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference
championship game as the tournament's seventh seed.
Prior to being named head coach, Mastrogiacomo served as a Shark's assistant coach for two seasons. During that span, Simmons went 28-4-1, won the GNAC tournament championship in 2004, the regular season crown in 2005 and made the school's first-ever NCAA Division III tournament appearance in any sport.
A four-year starter at Syracuse University from 2000-03, Mastrogiacomo made 64 career starts for the Orange and scored six goals from her midfield position. A two-year captain, she ended her career tied for ninth on the program's all-time assist list. Mastrogiacomo, who was a Big East Conference academic all-star each of her eight semesters at Syracuse, received the Verhulst Sportswoman of the Year Award in 2003. The award is given to the SU athlete that best exhibits sportsmanship, leadership and attitude on the field.
In addition to her collegiate experience, Mastrogiacomo returned to the Women's Professional Soccer League in 2009 as co-captain of the Bay State Select, and made an appearance for the United States national team in 2002 against Mexico. Mastrogiacomo, who holds a “D” United States Soccer Federation Coaching License, and a NSCAA National Diploma, currently coaches for the South Shore Select Soccer Academy. She has also worked numerous camps and clinics, including Boston College, Princeton University, Bowdoin College and Villanova University. She attended the NCAA Women Coaches' Academy in June 2009.
A native of Weymouth, Mass., Mastrogiacomo earned a bachelor's degree in social work from Syracuse in 2004. She worked previously as a special education teacher at Thomas V. Nash elementary school in Weymouth. Mastrogiacomo is currently pursuing a master's degree in Special Education.
Caitlin Schimmel

Assistant Soccer Coach, Athletics
Caitlin Schimmel is entering her fourth season
as the Assistant Soccer Coach at Simmons College. She will assist in training, game day management and
recruiting. She is also responsible for tracking game data.
Schimmel played at Community College of Rhode Island for two years and continued her career at Rhode Island College for two years. She was named captain at both schools, and also earned regional honors. She ranks among the school’s leaders in both points in a season and assists in a season at RIC. Schimmel received the Helen Murphy Award for the top female Student-Athlete, and was nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year award in 2003.
In November 2006, Schimmel was inducted into the Cumberland High School Hall of Fame and recognized for her contributions. Schimmel was a member of the first-ever female soccer program at Cumberland High School in Cumberland, RI after playing the Boys’ team as a freshman.
Schimmel graduated from Rhode Island College in 2002 with a degree in Psychology. She currently works as a Project Manager for Orion RED and resides in Cumberland, RI.
Lynn Gugliuzza
Second Assistant/Goalkeeping Coach
Lynn Gugliuzza is entering her second season as Second
Assistant/Goalkeeping Coach for the soccer team at Simmons College. As goalkeeping coach, she will design and
implement all keeper-specific training sessions. She will also assist in team training, game day management
and recruiting.
Gugliuzza played for the University of New Hampshire from 2003-2006. During this time she earned the Student-Athlete Award (2006), Player’s Award (2006), and was an America East Academic Honor Roll member throughout her entire collegiate career.
A native of Kenmore, NY, Gugliuzza graduated from UNH in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology: Sport Studies, and a minor in Business Administration. She most recently completed a masters in Education with a Coaching specialization at Boston University in June 2008.
Gugliuzza holds an NSCAA State and Regional Goalkeeping Diploma in addition to an NSCAA National Diploma. She received her USSF "C" and USSF National Youth license during the summer of 2009. Prior to Simmons, Gugliuzza worked with the women’s soccer team at Boston University as a Volunteer Assistant. She is currently a developmental coach for Massachusetts Youth Soccer and serves as an assistant coach for the Massachusetts State Olympic Development Program for girls under-13. She resides in Somerville, MA.
