Alicia Roane

Alicia M. Roane was appointed Head Athletic Trainer at Simmons College in August 2007. She oversees the healthcare and strength and conditioning of all of the Sharks’ intercollegiate athletic teams.

Prior to Simmons, Roane served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana from 2004 to 2007. While with the Fighting Irish, she worked directly with the nationally ranked Men’s Swimming/Diving team, the Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams, and aided in the coverage of all 26 intercollegiate programs.

Roane earned a Master’s degree in Sport’s Medicine from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia in August 2004. As a graduate assistant at GSU she was the primary athletic trainer for Women’s Soccer, Softball, and Men’s and Women’s Track and Field. Roane also served as a student athletic trainer at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland where she graduated magna cum laude in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education.

Alicia has worked as a Community Outreach Worker for both the Morgan State University and the University of Maryland’s Public Health Departments over the years. She plans on continuing her love of community health work here in the Boston area.

Michael Welch

Assistant Athletic Trainer, Athletics

Michael J. Welch was appointed Assistant Athletic Trainer at Simmons College in August 2010. He assists in providing the healthcare and strength and conditioning for all of the Sharks’ intercollegiate athletic teams.

Prior to Simmons, Welch served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Massachusetts from 2008 to 2010. While with the Minutemen, he worked directly with the nationally ranked Women’s Softball team, Men’s Soccer Team, and assisted in the daily coverage of all 21 intercollegiate programs. While at UMass Amherst, Welch earned a Master’s degree in Kinesiology in May 2010.

Welch earned his Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training at Lasell College in Newton, Mass. While at Lasell, he competed as a varsity athlete and also served as a student Athletic Trainer.

Welch is currently pursuing a degree in Health Professions Education at Simmons, where he plans to expand his interest in exercise, sports medicine, and health care in the Boston area.
