Amanda Maxwell
Head Lacrosse Coach, Athletics 617-521-1013
Amanda Maxwell (formerly Arpé) enters her first season as the Head Coach of the Simmons Field Hockey and Lacrosse programs. Maxwell joins the Simmons Athletics staff after one year as the Assistant Lacrosse coach at Archbishop Williams High School, and one year as Head Coach of Field Hockey and Lacrosse at Mashpee High School. At Mashpee, Maxwell led the Field Hockey team to a 10-3-5 record and the first round of the South Division II tournament, and produced four South Shore All Stars. Maxwell coached the Lacrosse team to a 7-6 record, the first winning season in the program’s history.
Before coaching high school, Maxwell spent five years as the Assistant Field Hockey Coach at Stonehill College, helping the team to a 51-14 record in her final three seasons. While at Stonehill, Maxwell’s responsibilities included the planning of team practices, goalkeeper coaching responsibilities, game management, strength and conditioning and recruiting and scouting.
Maxwell has coached several camps and clinics in the northeast. She was the Assistant Director of Stonehill’s Ultimate Field Hockey Camp, and assisted at Springfield College’s YES Clinic and the East West Field Hockey Camps at Keene State.
Maxwell is a 2003 graduate of Hobart & William Smith Colleges where she earned her B.A. in American Studies. She was a four-year member of the varsity field hockey team that won the 2000 Division III National Championship.
Brian Atherton
Assistant Lacrosse Coach
Brian Atherton returns for his second season as Assistant Lacrosse Coach for the Sharks. He will focus specifically on coaching goalkeeper position.
Atherton tended goal for the Tufts University Jumbos from 2000-2004. He graduated in 2004 from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Russian and Eastern European Studies. After graduating, he moved to Breckenridge, Colo. where he coached the Breckenridge middle school and high school boys and girls lacrosse teams from 2005-2006. Atherton's coaching experience also includes multiple sessions of the Jumbo Lacrosse Clinic held at Tufts.From 2006-2009 Brian attend Boston College Law School, and is currently an attorney at Looney Cohen & Aisenberg LLP in Boston. He continues to play in an indoor lacrosse league in Canton, Mass.
