Lacrosse Team to Run in Support of Special Olympics

December 1, 2011 BOSTON, Mass. -- The Simmons Lacrosse team will join hundreds of runners and walkers on Saturday, December 3rd to take part in the 7th annual Jolly Jaunt Boston, presented by the New Balance Foundation and to benefit Special Olympics Massachusetts.

Martensson Named to 2011 ECAC Lacrosse All-Star Team

August 10, 2011 Simmons Lacrosse freshman Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) 2011 All-Star Second Team at the defender position. Martensson was the only Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) athlete to receive the All-Star honor.

Sharks Earn 2010-11 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors

June 29, 2011 The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 598 student-athletes from 16 league sports on the 2010-11 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. 46 Simmons athletes received the honor, and all seven of the Simmons varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC were represented on this year’s Academic All-Conference Team.

Lacrosse 2011 Season In Review

May 17, 2011 Simmons College Lacrosse wrapped up the 2011 season this month after the Sharks earned their first-ever post-season bid to the ECAC tournament. Despite facing elimination after the semifinal round, the team’s performance capped a strong spring in which Simmons went 5-3 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. In the preseason coaches’ poll, Simmons was ranked 6th in the GNAC, and finished the regular season in 4th place with a record of 7-4. The 2011 season was the strongest for the team in just its third year as a varsity program, marking the first time Simmons Lacrosse qualified for the GNAC Tournament, as well as ECACs.

Sharks Selected to 2011 ECAC Lacrosse Championships at No. 4 Seed

May 10, 2011 Simmons College Lacrosse has been selected to the 2011 ECAC Division III New England Women’s Lacrosse Championship, the ECAC announced on Monday. This will be the program’s first appearance in the postseason. The tournament is a four-team field with the semifinal games on Wednesday and the championship game on Saturday.

Two Sharks Receive GNAC All-Conference Lacrosse Honors

Sharks Fall to Mustangs, 9-8, End Tournament Bid

April 28, 2011 Simmons Lacrosse came up one goal short in a hard fought GNAC quarterfinal match-up Wednesday night against the Mount Ida Mustangs. The loss brings the Sharks’ run in the conference postseason to an end, and they finish the season 7-5 overall (5-4 GNAC). Mount Ida improves to 9-8 overall (5-4 GNAC) as they advance to the GNAC Semifinals.

Sharks Set for GNAC Lacrosse Tournament

April 27, 2011 Simmons Lacrosse will open the 2011 GNAC Tournament when they host a quarterfinal matchup against Mount Ida on Wednesday, April 27 at 7:00pm after a competitive 2011 women’s lacrosse season.

Sharks Defeat Saints, 17-7

April 23, 2011 Simmons Lacrosse defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Emmanuel College, 17-7, in their final regular season match-up at home on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Sharks improve to 7-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play. The loss ends the season for the Saints who finished 3-9 overall and 2-7 in the GNAC. Saturday was also Senior Day for the Sharks. Lacrosse will graduate just two athletes from their young program this spring; Sarah Pontarelli (Naragansett, R.I.) and Jen Szkolt (Bondsville, Mass.).

Sharks Edge Mustangs, 9-8

April 14, 2011 Simmons Lacrosse fought a close battle from the first draw to the final minute to come up with the 9-8 win over conference opponent Mount Ida on Wednesday night. With the victory, the Sharks improve to 6-2 overall (4-1 GNAC). The Mustangs are now 6-7 overall (2-3 GNAC) with the loss.

April 9, 2011 Simmons Lacrosse fell to visiting Lasell College, 14-11, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Sharks break their five-game win streak and fall to 5-2 overall, 3-1 GNAC, while Lasell improves to 7-4, 4-1 GNAC.

Sharks Battle Past Monks, 17-14

March 30, 2011 Simmons Lacrosse earned a big win against Great Northeast Athletic Conference rival Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, 17-14, on Wednesday night to remain undefeated on their home field. The Sharks improve to 4-1 overall (2-0 GNAC). The loss is the first of the season for the Monks who are now 3-1 overall (1-1 GNAC).

Sharks Overwhelm Blue Jays, 22-2

March 26, 2011 Simmons Lacrosse defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Saint Joseph College of Connecticut, 22-2, on Saturday afternoon to open conference play. With the win, the Sharks extend their win streak to three games and improve to 3-1 overall (1-0 GNAC). The loss is the second of the season for the Blue Jays who are now 0-2 overall and 0-1 in GNAC play.

Sharks Upset Framingham State, 11-7

March 24, 2011 Sophomore Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) scored five goals including the game-winner in the second half to lift the Simmons College Lacrosse to an 11-7 non-conference win over host Framingham State University Rams on Wednesday. The game was the Rams’ season and home opener as they are now 0-1 on the year, while the Sharks improve to 2-1 on the season with the victory.

Simmons Overpowers Anna Maria, 19-4, in Home Opener

March 21, 2011 Simmons Lacrosse defeated Anna Maria 19-4 in their non-conference home opener on Monday night. The Sharks allowed only 13 shots from the Amcats, improving to 1-1 on the season with the win. With the loss, AMC drops to 0-3 on the season.

Sharks Drop Season Opener to Wellesley, 17-2

March 17, 2011 Simmons Lacrosse was defeated by Wellesley College, 17-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue held Simmons to just nine total shots en route to victory, and remain a perfect 4-0 on the season.

Lacrosse 2011 Season Preview

March 1, 2011 Simmons Lacrosse is gearing up for their third season of varsity status under first year Head Coach Amanda Maxwell. In 2010, the Sharks achieved a 6-6 overall record and went 4-4 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. In 2011, Simmons aims to make the conference tournament by improving their win tally, and meeting the team’s competitive potential in each game.

Arpé Joins Simmons Athletics as Head Field Hockey and Lacrosse Coach

June 21, 2010 Amanda Arpé enters her first season as the Head Coach of the Simmons Field Hockey and Lacrosse programs. Arpé joins the Simmons Athletics staff after one year as the Assistant Lacrosse coach at Archbishop Williams High School, and one year as Head Coach of Field Hockey and Lacrosse at Mashpee High School. At Mashpee, Arpé led the Field Hockey team to a 10-3-5 record and the first round of the South Division II tournament, and produced four South Shore All Stars. Arpé also coached the Lacrosse team to a 7-6 record, the first winning season in the program’s history, and coached two All Stars. Before coaching high school, Arpé spent five years as the Assistant Field Hockey Coach at Stonehill College, helping the team to a 51-14 record in her final three seasons. While at Stonehill, Arpé’s responsibilities included the planning of team practices, goalkeeper coaching responsibilities, game management, strength and conditioning and recruiting and scouting.

Athletes Honored at Annual Evening of Champions Awards Ceremony

Five student athletes were honored and one alumna was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Department of Athletics’ annual Evening of Champions awards ceremony on May 5, 2010. At the end of each academic year, athletes from each Simmons varsity team are recognized for their academic and athletic achievements. Five individual awards concluded the evening to distinguish the athletes that stood out among their peers during the year.

Lacrosse 2010 Season In Review

May 4, 2010 Simmons Lacrosse closes out its second season as a varsity sport after achieving a 6-6 overall record and going 4-4 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Sharks continued to build the lacrosse program with several returners and a large class of first-year athletes under second-year Head Coach Kate Leonard. Four athletes were named to the GNAC All-Conference Team, three received Rookie of the Week and one received Goalkeeper of the Week honors during the season.

Four Sharks Named to Lacrosse GNAC All-Conference Team

April 26, 2010 Four Simmons Lacrosse players received end of the season All-Conference honors from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Freshman attacker Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) earned a spot on the First Team, while teammates, junior attacker Natalie Stever (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), freshman midfielder Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) and junior defender Kayla Tirrell (Lincoln, R.I.) all were voted to the Second Team.

Wallace Named GNAC Rookie of the Week

April 20, 2010 Simmons lacrosse freshman Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, the GNAC announced Tuesday. The honor was awarded after Wallace helped the Sharks to a 2-0 week in the conference.

Sharks Stopped by Lions, 13-3

April 10, 2010 Simmons Lacrosse fell 13-3 to Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Emerson College on Saturday at The Winsor School Fields. The Lions' Maeghan Ross scored 6 goals and 5 assists, proving too much for the Sharks’ defensive game. With the loss, Simmons falls to 3-5 overall, 1-4 GNAC, while Emerson improves to 5-3 overall, 5-1 GNAC.

Sharks Fall to Undefeated Monks, 18-13

April 8, 2010 Simmons Lacrosse was unable to topple undefeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponent Saint Joseph’s Maine (7-0-1, 4-0 GNAC), falling 18-13 to the Monks on Wednesday afternoon. Senior midfielder Lauren Hagerman paced the Monks with four goals and three assists in the triumph. The Sharks are now 3-4 overall, 1-3 in the GNAC.

Sharks Smash Rivier, 21-11

April 2, 2010 Simmons Lacrosse earned another Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory Friday night at home over Rivier College, besting the Raiders 21-11. Senior Emily Sypher (Orono, Maine) scored five goals and two assists to lead the Sharks to the win. Simmons now stands 2-3 on the season (1-2 GNAC) while the Raiders fall to 0-4 (0-2 GNAC) with the loss.

Sharks Fall to Cadets, 15-6

March 29, 2010 The Cadets of Norwich University held off host Simmons College in Sunday’s Great Northeast Athletic Conference lacrosse game. The Cadets earned an early 5-0 lead they would never relinquish, ending the contest with the 15-6 win over the Sharks. Simmons now stands 1-3 on the season, 0-2 GNAC, while Norwich advance to 2-3, 2-0 GNAC.

Lasers Stop Sharks, 20-12

March 25, 2010 Simmons Lacrosse lost a three-goal advantage at the start of the second half to fall to Lasell College, 20-12, Thursday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse competition. The Lasers took an early lead but eventually fell behind at the ten-minute mark in the first half. The Sharks held onto a comfortable lead for twenty minutes before the Lasers pushed for a ten goal run late in the second to seal the victory.

Sharks Win Home Opener Over Amcats, 16-10

March 23, 2010 After a tentative first half, Simmons Lacrosse outscored Anna Maria College 10-4 in the second half to secure the 16-10 win at home on Monday night. Freshman Justine Beauchamp (Exeter, N.H.) scored six goals and one assist to lead the Sharks to victory. With the win, Simmons advances to 1-1 on the season, while Anna Maria falls to 1-5 overall. "I was really pleased with how we played together in the second half. If we can play like that in games from now on, we are going to see more success,” said Head Coach Kate Leonard.

Lacrosse Opens Spring Season in Florida

March 16, 2010 Simmons Lacrosse opened the 2010 season in West Palm Beach, Fla. with an 18-9 loss to non-conference opponent Vassar College. The Sharks start the season 0-1, while the Brewers' final spring training game leaves them at 2-1 on the season. On the Sharks' first-ever spring training trip, the squad found themselves down a few players due to schedule conflicts and injury. Playing the first game of the season without any substitutes was a challenge, but the team pulled together in the loss.

Lacrosse 2010 Season Preview

March 2, 2010 Simmons Lacrosse will begin its second year as a varsity program on March 11, when the Sharks compete in the West Palm Beach, Fla. Spring Fling tournament. Simmons went 2-4 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and 3-8 overall in 2009, narrowly missing a spot in the post-season conference tournament in their inaugural season. The Sharks are looking to step up their level of play in 2010 and make a mark in the conference.

Lacrosse Sends Letters to Soldiers

Lacrosse's Leonard and Games Travel Abroad for Prague Cup

Sharks Pass Skills to Boston Youth

June 1, 2009 When Simmons Lacrosse finished their season, the Sharks athletes put down their books and picked up their sticks to run a lacrosse clinic in conjunction with MetroLacrosse for more than 60 girls on Saturday, May 9. Established in 2000, MetroLacrosse is a non-profit organization in Boston that “uses lacrosse to inspire personal, athletic, and educational success” among more than 700 youth and teens across Boston and Chelsea.

Five Lacrosse Players Earn GNAC All-Conference Honors

Sophomore attacker Natalie Stever (Chagrin Falls. Ohio), freshman midfielder Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.), freshman defenseman Marissa Games (Newburyport, Mass.) and sophomore defenseman Kayla Tirrell (Lincoln, R.I.) all made the Second Team, while senior midfielder Heather Lowe (Woolwich, Maine) was given a spot on the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Lacrosse’s Damrell Receives Alumnae Honor Award

April 24, 2009 Simmons Lacrosse senior Freya Damrell (Georgetown, Maine) was given the Alumnae Honor Award on Wednesday evening. Damrell, a member of the Simmons Honors Program, will graduate in May with a bachelor of arts in International Relations and French and a 3.95 cumulative GPA.

April 18, 2009 Simmons Lacrosse fell to Anna Maria College on Saturday, 12-10. The Sharks celebrated Senior Day for the first graduating class of Simmons’ Lacrosse program: Nat West, Mariel Friedman, Heather Lowe, Hannah Bushway and Freya Damrell. Lacrosse Earns GNAC Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week Honors

Lacrosse 2009 Season Preview

Kate Leonard Named Head Field Hockey and Lacrosse Coach at Simmons

Simmons College Athletic Director Ali Kantor has announced the appointment of Kate Leonard as the head field hockey/lacrosse coach at Simmons College. She becomes the first lacrosse coach in Sharks history as Simmons will begin its inaugural season in the Spring of 2009.
