Crew Ranked 11th Nationally in CRCA/USRowing Poll

May 14, 2009 Simmons Crew wrapped up the 2009 spring season with a Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing 11th place ranking among NCAA Division III women’s varsity eights. This is the highest ranking Simmons has achieved in the 31-year history of the crew program.

Crew Team Dedicates Bench to Simmons Quad

Simmons Crew athletes, coaches, parents and Department of Athletics staff gathered on the main campus on Tuesday afternoon to unveil and dedicate a bench for the new Simmons quad. Using proceeds from the annual Crew Erg-A-Thon fundraiser, a one day indoor rowing marathon, the team of 37 rowers dedicated the hand-crafted bench as thanks to the Simmons community for last October’s 30 Years of Simmons Crew celebration.

Simmons Crew Eighth at New England Rowing Championships

May 5, 2009 Simmons Crew completed their regular spring racing season at the New England Rowing Championships on Saturday. The team placed two eights in the grand finals and two in the petite finals to earn enough points for eighth place out of 24 women’s teams, ahead of rival programs Tufts and Mount Holyoke, as well as several NCAA Division I programs.

Second Varsity Eight Shows Grit in Boston Race

April 21, 2009 Simmons Crew varsity rowers lined up against lightweight crews from local neighbor MIT and visiting Buffalo on Saturday, on their home course in the Charles River basin. The Sharks raced well in a light chop and a small headwind, with the second varsity lineup showing grit in a close race with the Engineers.

Simmons Rowers Sweep Second at Donahue Cup

April 11, 2009 Simmons Crew traveled to Worcester, Mass. for the second weekend in a row to compete in the Donahue Cup, hosted by WPI and attended by Williams and Connecticut College, along with Simmons. 2008 marked the first year Simmons was invited to compete in the Donahue Cup. In 10-12 mph tailwind conditions and slight chop, Simmons boasted a strong showing, placing second to Williams in the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, and Novice Eight events.

Simmons Novice Eight is Crew of the Week Finalist

April 10, 2009 Simmons Crew’s Novice Eight was a finalist for this week's row2k.com’s Crew of the Week poll. The Simmons Novice Eight continued the Sharks winning novice tradition over the weekend of April 4-5, taking victories over Connecticut College, Clark, WPI, Bates, Mount Holyoke and Wellesley.

Simmons Varsity Eight Ranked 13th by CRCA/USRowing

April 9, 2009 Simmons Crew’s Varsity Eight has moved up the standings in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)/USRowing polls, and now ranks 13th in the Nation among Division III programs. The ranking puts Simmons ahead of local rival Wellesley College and two spots behind Tufts University.

Simmons Crew Opens Season on Top

April 4, 2008 Simmons Crew headed to Worcester, Mass. on Saturday for the Clark Invitational, the first regatta of the 2009 spring season. The Sharks rowers found success in the chilly waters of Lake Quinsigamond as both the first varsity and first novice eights, and varsity four won their events.

Novice Eight Triumphs in Sunday Regatta

April 5, 2009 Simmons Crew spent a second day in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday, as they competed in a regatta hosted by WPI, and attended by Mount Holyoke, Bates, and Wellesley. The Sharks battled strong crosswinds and gusts of up to 30mph in the second day of their season debut.

Simmons Crew Ranked 15th Nationally in Preseason Poll

March 18, 2009 Simmons Crew is ranked 15th in the nation in the College Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing 2009 preseason poll for Division III Varsity Eights, row2k.com announced last week. This announcement marks the highest preseason ranking in program history for Simmons.

Crew Competes at the Seven Sisters Regatta, DuBois Named to All-Regatta Team

October 26, 2008 Simmons Crew traveled to the historic Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA to take on rival crews from Wellesley, Smith, Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr College in the Seven Sisters Regatta on Sunday. The Sharks finished fourth in team points while Mount Holyoke claimed their second consecutive and eighth all-time team championship in the 22nd running of the regatta. Senior Jennifer DuBois (Somersworth, NH) was named to the All-Regatta Team.

Crew Repeats as Collegiate Fours Silver Medalists at 2008 Head of the Charles Regatta

October 20, 2008 Simmons Crew repeated their silver medal performance in the Women’s Collegiate Fours event on Saturday at the 2008 Head of the Charles Regatta. The Sharks rowers finished in second and third in 2007 and 2006, respectively. The Simmons entry in the Women’s Collegiate Eight also finished in a program-high 20th place during racing on Sunday.

Crew Dedicates New Rowing Shell at Start of Parents’ Weekend

October 17, 2008 Simmons Crew welcomed the addition of a new eight-woman rowing shell to their fleet on Friday. With over one hundred current athletes, coaches, alumni, parents and administrators in attendance, the shell was toasted with sparkling cider and named the "Doreen Bingham Conley."

Simmons Crew Wins Women’s Club 8+ at Textile River Regatta

October 6, 2008 The Simmons Crew varsity women took home the gold for the second year in a row in the Women’s Club 8+ event at the Textile River Regatta. The Sharks traveled to Lowell, MA for their fall season debut, and placed in the top three in each event they entered.

Simmons Crew to Open Fall Season at Textile River Regatta

October 3, 2008 Simmons Crew is poised to enter fall head racing season after one of the most successful seasons in program history in 2007-08. The 2008-09 season holds much promise for the young team, which graduated only two seniors from the Varsity crew in the spring.

Tripician '96 Takes Bronze at World Rowing Championships

Wendy Campanella Tripician '96 (Needham, MA) took home bronze in the Women's Lightweight Quadruple Sculls event on the final day of the 2008 FISA World Rowing Championships, held July 20-27 in Linz-Ottensheim, Austria.

Crew Alumnae Win Gold at 2008 USRowing Club National Championships

Regina Yopak ’07 and Malyka Ianni ’06 took home three national titles for their wining performances at the USRowing Club National Championships this weekend in Camden, NJ. Both women competed for Boston’s Riverside Boat Club, also the home training base for the Simmons Crew program.
