Crew Races to Second Place at Seven Sisters Regatta
November 1, 2011 Simmons College Crew placed second overall at the 22nd annual Seven Sisters Regatta on Saturday in Hadley, Mass. Wellesley captured the overall Championship, taking first place in every race to total 40 total points, while The Sharks secured second place with 30 points. This is the third year in a row for a Wellesley-Simmons 1-2 finish. They were followed by Mount Holyoke (22), Smith (20), and Bryn Mawr (6).

Simmons Eight Races to Program Best at Head of the Charles
BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons College Crew competed on their home course in the 47th annual Head of the Charles Regatta on Saturday and Sunday, October 22-23, 2011. The Sharks’ entries in the Alumni Eight, Club Single, Collegiate Four and Collegiate Eight all clocked strong performances over the weekend, setting up the team for their final week of the season and the Seven Sisters Regatta.

Sharks Prepare for Head of the Charles Regatta
Simmons Crew will compete in the 47th annual Head of the Charles Regatta, the world’s largest two-day rowing event, on Saturday and Sunday, October 22-23. Over 300,000 spectators are expected to watch more than 8,000 athletes from 19 different countries navigate the course in 55 different events.

Varsity Crew Medals at Quinsigamond Snake Regatta
October 19, 2011 Simmons Crew traveled to Lake Quinsigamond in Shrewsbury, Mass. on Saturday October 15 for the second fall outing of the season. A new race on the Sharks’ fall schedule, the Snake is a college-only race, attracting top NCAA Division III programs from the northeast. Simmons raced their entire roster on the day, boating a program-high six eights and one four.

Simmons Crew Alumnae Spotlight: Malyka Ianni ‘05
August 3, 2011 Malyka Ianni ’05 has logged thousands of miles in the rower’s unrelenting pursuit of speed and technique. A former Simmons Crew team student-athlete and 7-year member of Riverside Boat Club in Cambridge, Ianni now rows for Potomac Boat Club in Washington, D.C. and continues to train to achieve her goal of representing the United States in International competition.

Purcell Selected to 2011 Division III Pocock All-America Team
May 25, 2011 Simmons Crew sophomore Audrey Purcell (Newton, N.J.) has been selected to the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Pocock All-America Second Team for the 2011 season. This award recognizes the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains at NCAA Division III institutions. Purcell receives this honor in just her second year of rowing after walking onto the team as a freshman in the fall of 2009.

Sharks Strong at NERC, Place 8th Overall
May 2, 2011 Simmons College Crew turned in a strong showing at the 2011 New England Rowing Championships on Saturday, April 30 at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass. After tight racing in the morning heats, the Novice Four and Third Varsity Eight qualified for the Grand Finals, while the Second Varsity Eight and the Varsity Eight both raced to spots in the Petite Finals. The Sharks finished in 8th place in points among women’s teams.

Simmons Crew Participates in Earth Day Cleanup
April 20, 2011 Simmons Crew put aside their oars and picked up trash bags to give back to the environment as a part of the 12th annual Charles River Earth Day Cleanup on Saturday, April 16. Along with members of Riverside Boat Club and the community, the entire team of 33 athletes combed the banks of the Charles River to spruce up the Magazine Beach area adjacent to the boathouse. The cleanup followed Simmons Crew’s victories on the river earlier in the morning.

Crew Sweeps MIT, Buffalo
April 17, 2011 Simmons Crew raced to two first place finishes on a blustery Saturday on the Charles River basin. The raw conditions of 20mph wind and rolling whitecaps were additional opponents to the crews from MIT Lightweights and Buffalo Lightweights, but the Sharks were able to handle the elements and emerge on top.

Crew Races Well at Donahue Cup
April 9, 2011 Simmons Crew traveled to Worcester, Mass. to compete in the WPI-hosted Donahue Cup on Saturday. In a battle of women's nationally and regionally ranked crews, top-rated Williams took home the Varsity Eight title, followed by eighth-ranked WPI in second place, and Simmons in third. The Engineers, ranked 14th in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll, finished ahead of Connecticut College and Franklin & Marshall in the regatta on Lake Quinsigamond.

Crew Spring 2011 Preview
March 28, 2011 Simmons College Crew is poised to open the spring 2011 racing season with back-to-back racing on Saturday April 2 and Sunday April 3. The Sharks will travel to Tufts on Saturday to face the Jumbos, as well as crews from Mount Holyoke, Vermont and Tulane. Sharks Capture Second Place at Seven Sisters Regatta
October 30, 2010 Simmons Crew raced to a second place team finish at the 2010 Seven Sisters Regatta with 28 points, after finishing third in 2009. The Sharks were boosted by wins from their two novice entries, and two fourth-place finishes from their varsity crews. For the second season in a row, Wellesley College secured top honors, collecting 34 points en route to their third overall title. Rounding out the five-team field were Smith College (26), Mount Holyoke (24) and Bryn Mawr (9). This season’s regatta was hosted by Mount Holyoke College on the Connecticut River.

Sharks Add New Shell to Fleet
September 30, 2010 Simmons Crew gathered together with over fifty parents, alumnae, athletics staff and friends on Saturday, September 11, to dedicate The Sally Lee, a new racing shell donated to the team by rowing alumna Katie McGrath ’90. The shell, a Fludesign pair/double, can be rigged as a sweep or sculling boat, and will be used by Simmons Crew varsity rowers to fine-tune their technical skills.

Athletes Honored at Annual Evening of Champions Awards Ceremony
Five student athletes were honored and one alumna was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Department of Athletics’ annual Evening of Champions awards ceremony on May 5, 2010. At the end of each academic year, athletes from each Simmons varsity team are recognized for their academic and athletic achievements. Five individual awards concluded the evening to distinguish the athletes that stood out among their peers during the year.

Simmons Varsity Eight Captures Friendship Cup
April 26, 2010 The Simmons Varsity Eight upset crews from Wellesley and Smith College en route to capturing the Sharks’ first victory in the third annual running of the Malden River Spirit Regatta on Saturday, April 24. Simmons’ Second Varsity Eight fell to Wellesley and Tufts, while the Third Varsity Eight also grabbed a pair of wins over Wellesley and Smith. With the win, the Sharks take home the Friendship Cup over top-ranked Division III crews heading into the Championship racing season.

Crew Ranked 9th in New England
April 16, 2010 Simmons Crew’s Varsity Eight was ranked ninth in New England, according to the New England Rowing Championships weekly Coaches Poll. The ranking follows last weekend’s strong showing at the Donahue Cup in Worcester, Mass., where the Sharks placed second to Williams, and ahead of WPI and Connecticut College. Crew Cranks Out Second Place at Donahue Cup
April 12, 2010 Simmons Crew competed in the Barbara Donahue Cup, hosted by Worcester Polytechnic Institute at Lake Quinsigamond, on Saturday, April 10 in Shrewsbury, Mass. In addition to host program WPI, Williams College and Connecticut College rounded out the Cup entries. Williams, the 2009 NCAA Division III Champion, swept all eights races, earning first place finishes in the WV8, W2V8 and W3V8. The Sharks followed with second place results over WPI and Connecticut in all three races, showing improved boat speed and grit from the previous weekend’s racing.

Crew Takes Silver at Textile River Regatta

Crew Fall 2009 Preview
September 30, 2009 Simmons Crew will open the fall 2009 season on Sunday, October 4 when the team travels to Lowell, Mass. for the Textile River Regatta. Crew Team Dedicates Bench to Simmons Quad
Simmons Crew athletes, coaches, parents and Department of Athletics staff gathered on the main campus on Tuesday afternoon to unveil and dedicate a bench for the new Simmons quad. Using proceeds from the annual Crew Erg-A-Thon fundraiser, a one day indoor rowing marathon, the team of 37 rowers dedicated the hand-crafted bench as thanks to the Simmons community for last October’s 30 Years of Simmons Crew celebration.

Simmons Crew Eighth at New England Rowing Championships

October 26, 2008 Simmons Crew traveled to the historic Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA to take on rival crews from Wellesley, Smith, Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr College in the Seven Sisters Regatta on Sunday. The Sharks finished fourth in team points while Mount Holyoke claimed their second consecutive and eighth all-time team championship in the 22nd running of the regatta. Senior Jennifer DuBois (Somersworth, NH) was named to the All-Regatta Team.

Crew Repeats as Collegiate Fours Silver Medalists at 2008 Head of the Charles Regatta

The Simmons College Crew team wrapped up a successful weekend of racing in Worcester, MA. The team, along with a crowd of family and friends, traveled to the racecourse at Lake Quinsigamond to compete in the New England Rowing Championships regatta.

Simmons Crew Ranked Thirteenth in the Nation
The Simmons College crew program earned a spot in the national rankings this week, as the Sharks Varsity Eight boat was ranked thirteenth in the nation, according to the US Rowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Coaches Division III poll (CRCA).

Simmons Crew wrapped up a morning of round-robin style racing on Saturday April 26th on the Mystic River. The team traveled to the Tufts University boathouse in Malden, MA, to race Smith College, Wellesley College, and Tufts.

Crew Team Opens Season on a High
The Simmons Crew team opened its season early Saturday morning racing against Radcliffe College on their home course. Two Simmons varsity fours took on one Radcliffe Lightweight boat on the 2000-meter course.
