February 11, 2012 BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Basketball fell to rival Emerson College, 63-51 Saturday afternoon, as the Sharks and Lions honored Kay Yow in the annual Great Northeast Athletic Conference’s Play for Kay match up. The Sharks celebrated the team’s three seniors, Brittany Dolloff (Hollis, N.H.), Alex Acloque (Randolph, Mass.) and Jessica Thomas (Sandwich, Mass.) prior to the game for their hard work and contributions to Simmons athletics.

Cadets Outshoot Sharks in Final Seconds For Conference Win
February 7, 2012 NORTHFIELD, VT. – The Norwich University Cadets hit their final three free throws to overturn a late deficit and pick up a key Great Northeast Athletic Conference win against the Simmons Sharks Tuesday evening. The Cadets, improving to 10-13 overall and 5-6 in the league, trailed visiting Simmons (3-18, 1-10 GNAC) 62-46 with under six minutes left. From that point, the Maroon and Gold brought their home crowd inside Andrews Gymnasium to its feet with a 22-3 run to end the game with a 68-65 win.

Mustangs Bite Sharks in 69-57 League Victory

Simmons Basketball Edged in 2011 Season Opener 55-46
November 15, 2011 WENHAM, Mass. -- Simmons basketball opened their 2011 season yesterday against the Fighting Scots of Gordon College, falling 55-46, and moving to 0-1 overall on the year. After the Scots jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the opening minutes, the Sharks rallied back with an 8-2 run of their own to even the score at 10-10 with just under 10 minutes to play in the period. Possession and scoring remained relatively balanced throughout the remainder of the half with the host Scots carrying a 26-23 lead into the break.

2011-2012 Basketball Season Preview

Sharks Earn 2010-11 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors

Sharks Win Blazer Tip-Off Tournament
November 20, 2010 Simmons Basketball’s Emily Thomas (Cheshire, Conn.) poured in a game-high 27 points and was named most valuable player to help the Sharks claim the 2010 Blazer Tip-Off women’s basketball tournament with a 66-62 victory on Saturday afternoon over host Elms College at Picknelly Arena. Basketball 2010-11 Season Preview
November 15, 2010 Simmons Basketball is prepared for the 2010-11 season after finishing 2009-10 with an overall record of 17-9 (8-4 GNAC) and a trip to the conference semi-finals for only the second time in the history of the program. The Sharks were ranked nationally in a few categories: 11th in field goal defense, 23rd in free throw percentage (74%), 8th in 3-point field goal percentage defense and 31st in 3-point field goals per game.

Cohen ’08 to Play Professional Basketball in Israel
November 3, 2010 Simmons Basketball alumna Nikki Cohen ’08 has signed a contract to play for the Israeli professional basketball team Hapoel Be'er Tuviya. Be’er Tuviya is associated with the Israeli women’s second league, Ligat Leumi. Cohen becomes the first Simmons graduate ever to play basketball at this elevated level overseas.

Simmons junior Jessica Thomas (East Sandwich, Mass.) has been chosen as the 2010 State Representative Kevin G. Honan Sportsmanship Award recipient. Athletes Honored at Annual Evening of Champions Awards Ceremony
Five student athletes were honored and one alumna was inducted into the Hall of Fame at the Department of Athletics’ annual Evening of Champions awards ceremony on May 5, 2010. At the end of each academic year, athletes from each Simmons varsity team are recognized for their academic and athletic achievements. Price Named 2009-10 GNAC Coach of the Year
February 26, 2010 Simmons Basketball Head Coach Tony Price has been named the 2009-10 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year, the GNAC announced on Thursday evening. The post-season honors are voted upon annually by the coaches of the GNAC. Price led the Sharks to a 16-8 regular season record (8-4 GNAC), and an appearance in the conference tournament semifinal round.

Three Sharks Receive GNAC All-Conference Honors
February 26, 2010 Simmons Basketball received three post-season accolades from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, the GNAC announced on Thursday. Senior captain Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) was selected to the All-Conference First Team, senior captain Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.) was selected to the All-Conference Second Team, and sophomore Alex Acloque (Randolph, Mass.) was named to the Sportsmanship Team. Fox is the third player in the program’s history to earn first-team All-GNAC honors (Jacqueline Bolis 2003-04, Kristen Lucek 2005-06), and has now done so for the second year in a row. Eagles was also named to the 2010 GNAC All-Tournament Team for her performance in the post-season.

Sharks End Season In GNAC Semifinal Loss to Emmanuel
February 25, 2010 Fifth-seeded Simmons College fell to top seed Emmanuel College, 80-50, in one of two semifinal games of the Great Northeast Athletic Tournament. January 23, 2010 Simmons Basketball blew through Saint Joseph’s College of Maine on Saturday, 65-57, to capture another Great Northeast Athletic Conference win. The Sharks now stand at 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference, the best opening GNAC record in Simmons program history. With the loss, the Monks drop to 7-10 overall, 1-3 GNAC. January 16, 2010 Simmons Basketball fell to Norwich University, 73-53, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest Saturday afternoon at Andrews Hall. With the win, Norwich keeps a perfect 3-0 in the conference (11-4 overall), while Simmons slips to 9-5 overall, 2-1 GNAC. Norwich used a 19-2 run spanning the first and second halves to turn a 26-24 lead with 2:01 to play in the first half into a 45-26 advantage at 16:20 mark of the second half. Sharks Earn 2008-09 GNAC Academic All-Conference Honors
The Great Northeast Athletic Conference recognized 501 student-athletes from 15 league sports on the 2009 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference Team. Simmons boasted 38 athletes who received the honor, and all seven of the Simmons varsity programs sponsored by the GNAC were represented on this year’s Academic All-Conference team.

Basketball 2008-09 Season In Review
Simmons Basketball finished an impressive and historic 2008-09 season, in which they established a new high for second-most wins in a season with an overall record of 17-8, one shy of the most wins (18), and a Great Northeast Athletic Conference record of 8-4. The Sharks made a tremendous end of the season push, putting together a string of six consecutive victories, including a huge win on the road against Johnson & Wales after trailing by double digits at the half. The Sharks would then go 2-2 over the last 2 weeks of the season to make it to the GNAC Tournament as the sixth seed. Simmons ended their postseason run with a loss to Norwich University in the GNAC Quarterfinals on the road.

Basketball 2008-09 Season Preview
November 11, 2008 Simmons Basketball is gearing up for another season under Head Coach Tony Price, who is beginning his ninth year at the helm of the program. Last season, the Sharks finished in 8th place and qualified for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament, their 6th straight appearance. The team had many new faces and it took time for the team to develop cohesion, which at times resulted in inconsistent play. However, the Sharks made a serious run at the tail end of the season, winning 5 out of their last 7 games to qualify for the postseason. The team hopes to use this strong finish to prepare for 2008.
