Wendy Campanella Tripician '96 (Needham, MA) took home bronze in the Women's Lightweight Quadruple Sculls event on the final day of the 2008 FISA World Rowing Championships, held July 20-27 in Linz-Ottensheim, Austria.
Tripician and three teammates finished third with a time of 6:40.77, behind defending gold medalist Australia (6:36.41) and silver medalist Poland (6:39.38). The US crew led the field through the middle thousand meters of the race, but were unable to hold off a late push from the Australian crew. Great Britain, Germany and Denmark rounded out the field, finishing fourth through sixth, respectively.
"The crew team and coaches, and the Simmons community, are very proud of Wendy and her success at the international level," said Nikolay Kurmakov, Head Crew Coach at Simmons.
Tripician's quad qualified for the 2008 World Championships after winning the US World Championship trials earlier in the month. Her teammates in the quad are Libby Peters (New Hartford, NY), Rebecca Smith (Torrington, CT) and Hanna Moore (Niskayuna, NY). All train together at Vesper Boat Club out of Philadelphia.
Tripician was a three-year member of Simmons Crew. She received her undergraduate degree in 1996, and her graduate degree from the Simmons School for Health Studies in 2002.
