Lions spoil Simmons 25th Anniversary The Simmons College basketball team had plenty of support in the stands on Saturday as the Sharks celebrated its 25th anniversary as a varsity program and plenty of alumni were back to commemorate the event. But the visiting Lions of Emerson spoiled the party, with strong defense and timely shooting to take a 57-49 win. The Sharks jumped out early playing on adrenaline and took an early 10-2 lead, but Emerson clawed back as the half wore on and trailed by just one at the break 24-23. In the second half. Emersons Bri Papa came off the bench to bury a pair of crucial threes and give the Lions a six point cushion. Defensively the Lions clamped down allowing Simmons to shoot just 25 percent for the second half. Freshman Kathy Andrade led all scorers with 17 points, and she grabbed 10 rebounds. Lauren Vassallo chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds. For Simmons Lauren Kreckie had a big day with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore Stephanie Fox had 12 points and 18 rebounds. Freshman Morgan Johnson chipped in with 11 points. The Sharks are off until Thursday when theyll take on Daniel Webster at home at 7 p.m.
