Basketball's Fox Named to GNAC Weekly Honor Roll

Soccer Receives NSCAA Team Academic Award

January 7, 2009 Simmons Soccer received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America College Team Academic Award for the 2007-08 academic year. The award is given annually by the NSCAA to programs with a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Lacrosse Sends Holiday Letters to Soldiers

December 11, 2008 Simmons Lacrosse, the newest addition to Sharks Athletics, sponsored a Letters to Soldiers event in the Fens on Friday, December 5 and Monday, December 8. The team provided crafts materials and postage for members of the Simmons community to send cards to troops overseas for the holidays.

Three GNAC Records Fall as Simmons is Crowned 2008 Swimming & Diving Champions

December 7, 2008 Simmons College Swimming & Diving was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference Champion of 2008. The win, Simmons' fifth in a row, and seventh in eight years, capped the two-day meet. More than 100 athletes from the conference's seven teams gathered at the Simmons College Holmes Sports and Fitness Center to race for the championship title.

Simmons Defeats Smith, 70-63, in Overtime

December 6, 2008 - Junior guard Julianna Eagles (Quincy, Mass.) scored a team-high 19 points to lead Simmons to a 70-63 overtime decision over NEWMAC foe Smith College on Saturday afternoon at the Holmes Sports Center. With the win, the Sharks improve to 5-1 on the season, while the Pioneers fall to 5-3.

Basketball Tops UMass Dartmouth, 60-47

December 5, 2008 Simmons Basketball defeated the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 60-47, in a non-conference away game Thursday evening. The Sharks used a 10-4 run midway through the second half to break a 39-39 tie and take an eight-point lead, eventually coming away with the win. Simmons improves to 4-1 overall, while UMass Dartmouth falls to 2-4.

Basketball Falls to Oneonta State, 76-40

November 21, 2008 - Junior forward Stephanie Fox (West Springfield, Mass.) scored a team-high ten points as the Simmons basketball team fell to Oneonta State, 76-40, in the first game of the Hunter College Women's Basketball Alumni Tip-Off Tournament at the Hunter College Sportsplex on Friday evening. Four Sharks Earn All-GNAC Honors

November 11, 2008 - The Great Northeast Athletic Conference office released the 2008 All-GNAC first, second, third and Sportsmanship teams on Tuesday with four Sharks earning accolades. Sophomore Anya Bottaro was named to the second team, sophomores Brooke MacKenzie (Mansfield, Mass.) and Katie Foley (Rochester, N.H.) garnered third team honors. Junior Kelly Muirhead was selected to the all-conference sportsmanship team.

Swimming & Diving Fourth at Regis Invitational

November 17, 2008 Simmons Swimming & Diving placed fourth out of seven teams this weekend at the Regis College Invitational. The meet was highlighted by strong performances from the divers and some exciting finishes from the swimmers, with the team collecting 570 points.

Simmons Soccer 2008 Season In Review

November 17, 2008 Simmons Soccer wrapped up their 2008 season after a heartbreaking loss to Norwich on a penalty kick in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals on November 2. The Sharks finished with an overall 6-12-1 record, and a 5-7 record in the GNAC. Basketball's Kreckie Presented with 2008 NCAA Sportsmanship Award

Freshman Outside Hitter Makes History for Simmons Volleyball

November 13, 2008 After winning the most games in Simmons Volleyball history the Sharks volleyball program has made history yet again. Conference officials announced this week that freshman outside hitter Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year and was selected to the All-Conference second team, marking the first time in program history that a player has claimed GNAC Rookie of the Year honors. Sophomore middle hitter Shamika Johnson (Springfield, Mass.) was selected as Simmons' Sportsmanship Award honoree.

Volleyball 2008 Season In Review

November 11, 2008 Simmons Volleyball closed out the 2008 season with a 13-11 overall record, and a 6-6 mark in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. This was a complete turnaround for second-year Head Coach Jason Conetta's Sharks, whose overall record at the close of 2007 was 8-14. Simmons entered the 2008 GNAC tournament as 7th seed, the program's highest ranking and first winning season since 1999.

Tennis 2008 Season In Review

November 12, 2008 Simmons Tennis finished the 2008 campaign with an 11-5 overall record, and a 7-0 run against Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponents. The Sharks captured the GNAC Championship for the fourth time in five years. Head Coach Bob Rauseo received GNAC Coach of the Year honors for the third time in four years. Katy Hallinan (Lakeville, Mass.), Maile Macloed (Carlsbad, Calif.), Maggie Taylor (Yarmouth, Maine) and Stacey Kohan (Milford, Conn.) each received GNAC All-Conference honors at the close of the 2008 season. Simmons is now the 10th-ranked Division III team in Massachusetts, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

Basketball 2008-09 Season Preview

November 11, 2008 Simmons Basketball is gearing up for another season under Head Coach Tony Price, who is beginning his ninth year at the helm of the program. Last season, the Sharks finished in 8th place and qualified for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament, their 6th straight appearance. The team had many new faces and it took time for the team to develop cohesion, which at times resulted in inconsistent play. However, the Sharks made a serious run at the tail end of the season, winning 5 out of their last 7 games to qualify for the postseason. The team hopes to use this strong finish to prepare for 2008.

Volleyball Falls to Johnson & Wales, 3-0 in Conference Quarterfinals

November 4, 2008 - The Simmons College volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision, by scores of 25-10, 25-13 and 25-22 to GNAC front-runner Johnson & Wales at the Harborside Recreation Center on Tuesday evening in the conference quarterfinals. With the loss, the Sharks finish the season with a 13-12 overall record, GNAC 6-6, while the Wildcats improve to 25-12, GNAC 11-1 and advance to the conference semifinals to face Emerson.

Masters Swimming World Records Set at Simmons October Swim Fest

Simmons College Swimming and Diving hosted the inaugural October Swim Fest , a Masters swimming mini-meet, on Saturday, October 18. Masters swimmers ranging from age 20 to 75 descended on the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium for the competition. Many local teams, including Jumbo Aquatics, BC, Wellelsey, Cambridge, ABC Sharks and, of course, Simmons Masters, were in attendance, in addition to swimmers from Maine and New Hampshire.

Crew Competes at the Seven Sisters Regatta, DuBois Named to All-Regatta Team

October 26, 2008 Simmons Crew traveled to the historic Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, PA to take on rival crews from Wellesley, Smith, Mount Holyoke and Bryn Mawr College in the Seven Sisters Regatta on Sunday. The Sharks finished fourth in team points while Mount Holyoke claimed their second consecutive and eighth all-time team championship in the 22nd running of the regatta. Senior Jennifer DuBois (Somersworth, NH) was named to the All-Regatta Team.

Tennis Captures Fourth GNAC Tournament Title

October 26, 2008 - The No. 1-seeded Simmons tennis team knocked off third-seeded Johnson and Wales, 6-3, on Sunday evening at the Weymouth Club to claim it's fourth Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tennis Championship in the last five years. The Sharks, the best team in the conference all season long, enjoyed a successful start to the tournament with a 7-2 win over fifth seed Emerson on Saturday in the tournament semifinals.

Crew Repeats as Collegiate Fours Silver Medalists at 2008 Head of the Charles Regatta

October 20, 2008 Simmons Crew repeated their silver medal performance in the Women's Collegiate Fours event on Saturday at the 2008 Head of the Charles Regatta. The Sharks rowers finished in second and third in 2007 and 2006, respectively. The Simmons entry in the Women's Collegiate Eight also finished in a program-high 20th place during racing on Sunday.

Crew Dedicates New Rowing Shell at Start of Parents' Weekend

Simmons Volleyball Defeats Newbury, 3-0

Freshman outside hitter Meaghan Flynn (Laguna Beach, Calif.) recorded seven kills, six digs and three service aces, lifting the Sharks volleyball program over Newbury, 3-0, by scores of 25-15, 25-12 and 25-15 on Wednesday night at Pappas Gymnasium. With the win, the Sharks improve to 8-6 overall, while the Nighthawks fall to 3-14 overall.

Field Hockey 2008 Season Preview

Simmons Field Hockey welcomes first-year Head Coach Kate Leonard as the program nears the start of the 2008 season. In 2007, the Sharks ended the season with a record of 4-4 in the North Atlantic Conference, and 7-11 overall. The team accomplished this despite some setbacks, including the lack of a true goalkeeper and a young team.
