Simmons Field Hockey earned two spots on the North Atlantic Conference 2009 All-Conference Team, the NAC announced on Tuesday. Senior forward Emily Sypher (Orono, Maine) and senior goalkeeper Jen Szkolt (Bondsville, Mass.) each earned a spot on the All-Conference First Team.

Sypher scored 6 goals and 1 assist in seven games in the NAC this season (12 goals, 5 assists in 18 games overall). She is now ranked sixth in program records for single-season goals, fifth in single season assists, and fifth in single season points. She is also ranked third for career goals (22), career points (56) and career assists (12).

“Syph worked so hard this year to do what it takes to improve as a player and be a leader on the field,” said Head Coach Kate Leonard. “Her recognition on the first team is well deserved, as she was a huge part of our scoring offense this season. Her continued improvement and growth over her career should show others that hard work pays off and can really make a difference to the team.”

Szkolt has racked up 70 saves, 19 goals against, 79% save percentage in seven games in the NAC this fall. Overall in 2009, she has recorded 99 saves, 25 goals against, three shutouts, and an 80% save percentage in 12 games. She now ranks third in program records in career shutouts (8) and seventh in single season shutouts.

“Jen has sacrificed her favorite position as a field player to play goalie for us the past three seasons. She has the natural athleticism and aggression it takes to be a smart, strong goalkeeper,” said Leonard. “Jen had the best play of her career in our last weekend of the season, making 38 saves in two games against top-ranked teams. Our team was confident with Jen as a defensive anchor, and she exceeded our expectations and kept us in the game time and time again. I am so pleased the conference coaches recognized Jen's strengths and abilities; this honor is very well deserved.”
